Chapter 3
“So, it’s going to be like it never happened?”- Mason asked and I think that he knew the answer.
“I suppose.” - I answered as his gaze met mine again. He shivered, and I did too. He hugged me, and I felt the same tingling sensation on my back as before. Yes, I was a freak. Yes, I was kinda like Superman. And yes, I was in love with Mason.
“So you’re telling me that you were out for one whole week and didn’t went to school and we searched you like some freakin’ sick people just because you ‘had the need’ to run away to South Carolina with your bestfriend, who is also a seventeen old boy with hormones rushing through his bones??”- My dad screamed and he had every right for it.
“Yes, dad…But I promise, we didn’t do something…inappropriate, I swear. I just had to. I was getting all ‘in routine’ all years that I can remember for myself. I was getting predictable. So yes, I did skip school and went to South Carolina, like you said.”-Maybe lying to my dad was something that I was never used to. I always loved him, and I preferred spending time more with him rather than with my mom. But if I tell them the truth, I will be dead, and I’m sure that they will not stop with only killing me. They will kill everybody I know, everybody I love. And I prefer lying to my dad and getting grounded for the last of my life, than getting a ‘family reunion’ in heaven. I just wish that this will stop and I can go back to my normal life. No accidences or supernatural abilities.
She’s lying to us. I can see it in her eyes. She was never a good liar. But I better keep my mouth shut. I don’t want to make consequences that will last for a lifetime.
I heard my dad’s voice loud and clear. But, again, his lips weren’t moving, and I felt the butterflies in my stomach that ‘flied’ around every time I use my ability. I had a feeling that it was getting stronger.
“Honey, can you leave us alone please? Both of you?”–My mom said to both, my dad and my 13 year old sister. I heard the giggle in her thoughts.
So, my perfect bigger sister after all wasn’t perfect as Mom and Dad thought about. Oh, well. They still have one daughter they won’t be disappointed from. Uh oh. I better not tell them about my D in history. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe never.
I felt my Dad’s eyes on my back while he was leaving to the kitchen. My Mom sat down and looked me with those sapphire eyes of hers. I inhered my grandpa’s eyes. But I got the mahogany hair from my Mom. She says that my optimism is from my aunt. She died when I was a little baby.
“Honey, is there anything that you would want to share with me?” – I looked at my Mom’s eyes. My eyes got wet and I tried to swallow the tears that wanted to burst out of my face. She looked worried and her eyebrows were lifted up. She spoke those words with compassion. I loved the way she smiled and hated the way she worried and cried.
“No, mom.”– And the reward for the worst liar in the world goes to…
“All I said was true”

“So, did Mason and you hook up or what? – Chloe asked when I simply fell on my bed and felt the comfort of the pillow that I was sleeping with the last five years. I didn’t think I would miss it this much.
-NO! Of course not! He’s my best friend for Christ sake! And you’re thirteen years old!” – I shouted, and than remembered the hugs, those warm chills over my back when his arm would stretch out and cover my shoulders.
“Shouldn’t you be studying? Weren’t you having a…uh…history exam tomorrow?”
“Hello? You were gone all week and today’s Thursday. The exam was in last Friday. Did you got so drunk and you still can’t remember that it was a whole week that passed? Or just there in South Carolina the time is stopped? Or, wait, I have a better one, you were abducted by…Aliens!”- She started making the same sound as the theme song of The X-files.
“Stop it! I just…forgot.”- There is no way I could get myself out of the whole I just fell in. My sister is way more dangerous than my Mom and Dad.
“Or someone made you feel like it is passed only an hour, when actually it’s passed a whole week? Someone like Mason?” – She smiled with that smile she does when she’s trying to convince me. Yes, an evil one too.
“Again, no! How many times will I have to tell you that Mason and I are just friends? I think of him like a brother, not as a boyfriend!”
“But, what really matters does he feels the same way?” – She asked suspiciously.
“I shouldn’t be the one you’re asking that question.”- I was trying to convince myself to get up. I had to leave the comfort of my bed, but that is something that I must do so I couldn’t be bothered by Chloe and her annoying questions.
I stood up and walked out of my purple room. Actually, I haven’t changed the walls color from when I was twelve. My room had two beds; one for me and the other for my annoying sister. The curtains were yellow. Our house had three bathrooms; one for me and my sister, the other one for my parents, and the third was for the guest room.
I took a deep breathe and walked in the bathroom. As usual, my bathroom was TOTALLY messy. Well, what did I expect from one week? Oh my god! Are those sandwiches???
“CHLOE!!! What is this mess?!” - I shouted angry at my sister.
She came right away and just shrugged.
“I don’t know…”
“How could you possibly not know why are there sandwiches in my bathroom???”- Chloe looked at the counter and saw the sandwiches.
“Oh, there they are!” – Chloe grabbed them and ran out of the bathroom. I was left with the mess that looked like a farm! I started picking up clothes from the floor, the sink and even from the shower! Once I was done with the clothes, I saw the tooth paste all over the floor. What happened over here?! I grabbed the towel and pour water on it. I rubbed it as hard as I could. Then I started to clean the mirror. There was more dust than an old spooky house!
I finally convinced myself that I shouldn’t be cleaning any more. When I closed the bathroom door, the bathroom at least didn’t look like a pig house like before.
I went down from the stairs and went to the kitchen. There was nobody and I opened the fridge door. I am so hungry! We ate at the Diner, but, it got out of me as soon as we walked out from the door. Let’s just say ‘never eat at a 24\7 Diner, because you will get a lock of hair and some nails even in your coffee.
I decided to grab the left over from the chicken that apparently was for lunch today. I grabbed some coke and mayo.
When I finally satisfied my hunger, I went up stairs so I can change the beautiful dress and the heels. When I looked in the mirror, I couldn’t recognize myself, and I mean it on a good way. My hair was now a little bit better than it was when I woke up on the sidewalk. I had makeup. Makeup! I never wear makeup. Not even at parties. And those heels! They were black with green from both sides. I loved them! The dress was… I can’t even find a word for it! It was green and it went perfectly with my eyes.
I went to my closet. I found my favorite jeans and the ‘butterfly’ blouse. I grabbed them and putted them on in just seconds. I carefully folded the dress, and I took the heels and elegantly placed them on the lowest shelf of my closet. Than I went to the living room and saw my dad watching sports. I really didn’t know what to do, and sitting awkwardly with my still-angry-dad didn’t seem like a good thing to do. So I had a crazy idea. I grabbed my jacket and went to the street to test the boundaries of my new second ability.
