The rest of the week, my first week of college goes by fairly slowly. I've gotten used to my schedule and where my classes are by now. Lily and I drive to school together in the morning then I drive home alone after my last class and Matt drives her back after their last class. While they are in class and driving back here I either watch boring TV, read a book or nap. Thankfully, I haven't napped and forgot to put on pants before going outside my room again. I'm now halfway through my second week of college at UCLA.
Matt still sat beside her in our Pyschology class but she still talks to me and tries to inculde me in the conversation. I don't know why, but for some reason there's an awkward air around Matt and I. We aren't comfortable around each other yet but he doesn't seem like the type of guy who makes things awkward and makes people feel uncomfortable.
Right now we're all sitting in Psychology, the professor talking about something that I'm not paying attention to. My attention is focused on the conversationg Lily and Matt are having behind me. They're whispering and I can't entirely hear what they're saying but I did hear Matt ask Lily something that sounded like "when are you going to tell her?"
I started trying to listen closely because I wanted to know who she needed to tell something to. Could it be? Was there a secret she was keeping from me?
I never got to find out because the bell suddenly rang and it was time for me to go back to our apartment and wait for her there. I grabbed my stuff and stuck it in my purse. I stood and turned around to face Lily and Matt. "I'll see you back at the apartment, Lily. Have a good time in class!" I tell her.
She nods, smiling at me but the smile doesn't enitrely reach her eyes like usual. "See you, Bree."
Matt smiles at me too. "Bye, Bree."
I smile at them both then turn around and head out of the class and out the exit doors, through the parking lot and towards my car. It's hot outside today, the suns heat beating down on my face and making me sweat. One of the things I don't like about LA is the weather. I'm one of those people who likes seasons, I like when the season changes and I don't really enjoy the heat that much. I would rather live somewhere where it wasn't summer all year round. Call me crazy, but that's how I am.
I get in my car and right away turn on my air conditioning. Thank all that is good and holy that I have a car with air conditioning, I'm pretty positive I wouldn't survive LA without it. I'm so glad our apartment has it too, if it didn't I would probably move. Or buy a fan. Or maybe 5 fans. The more the merrier, right?
I don't know how she does it, but Lily doesn't ever turn on the air conditioner. I'm always the one to turn it on. I guess maybe she's used to the heat by now or she just knows I'm going to do so she doesn't even bother, just waits for me to do it.
I sing along to the radio as I drive back to the apartment. I pull into the parking lot and scan my key card so the door will unlock. I take the stairs up to my apartment since I've never taken the stairs here before and I don't really have anything else better to do. I realize about halfway up that I should have thought this through, We're on the fifth floor and there are a lot of stairs.
"Holy man, never again," I breathe silently as I finally make my way to the top of the stairs. I slowly drag my feet to my apartment door and unlock it, throwing my purse on the kitchen counter then throwing myself down onto the couch. I sigh pleasently as I relax and get my breath back from going up so many flights of stairs. Holy crap, I am so not in shape, I think to myself.
