Chapter 5 – Family friends

It had been a few days since I first arrived at the Winters family home and to say I was loving it here would be an understatement.

I actually felt like I was at home, as weird as that may sound, its true.

“So as I was saying. This summer is going to be lots of fun! Considering all the things we have planned to do bro.” Jack was saying to someone.

I had no idea who he was talking to but I needed to get out of my room for some inspiration for my room. So I walked out in my ripped and paint covered jeans, an old t-shirt of Richards with my stupid curly hair falling down into my eyes.

“Heey Ri!” Jack shouted as soon as he saw me.

I rolled my eyes at his enthusiasm at seeing me.

“Hey Jack.” I say, turning around to face him and his very hot friend.

Why, oh why did he choose today for me to meet his friend when I am a mess?

Too bad. I sigh in my head.

“What are you up to, hun?” Jack asks me.

“Just looking for inspiration for my room. I’m stuck on idea’s.” I tell him.

“Of course you are. How is your room coming along?”

“Good actually. Give it another day or two and I will be done.”

“Really?”

I nod.

“Can I see?” He asks, already knowing the answer but asking anyway.

“Nope.” I say, popping the ‘p’.

I turn to go when I heard someone clear their throat but I continued walking.

“Who was that.” I heard the boy asks jack.

“Oh, sorry. That was my sister, Arianna. Sorry about that Alec. I forgot that you two hadn’t met yet.” Jack explains.

Feeling slightly compelled to, I listen in on their conversation. I guess I am aloud to considering that it’s about me.

“That’s okay man. Wait, sister? I thought you only had one sister and that was Mary-Anne. Not that I am complaining.” Alec said.

“Dude, not cool. I told you that mum was going to adopt, didn’t I?” Jack asks.

“Yes but I met the adopted one earlier, Sarah.”

“Yes, well… Mum kind of adopted two. Arianna was an orphan…”

“Wait,” Alec interrupts.

“Arianna, orphan. You mean the loner Arianna from school? The one Roxanne loves to tease?” He continued.

I was wondering when someone would ask about that, or at least figure out who I was.

“Really? I never made the connection so I didn’t think to much on it, but I think your right. I have no idea why Roxanne loves to tease her so much because Arianna is a sweet girl.” Jack defends me.

I roll my eyes. Over protective brother much?

“Wow dude, calm down. She has been your sister for what, three/four days and your already older brothering her ass.”

“Sorry.” Jack mutters.

I resist the urge to face palm and just walk away from where I am standing.

I start to move away when I hear the door to my room being opened.

“Don’t even think about it Jack!” I yell.

I hear him curse and I laugh quietly.

“How did you know it was me?” He asks, appearing beside me.

“Call it a sisters intuition.”

He groans.

From the corner of my eye I see Alec elbow Jack in the stomach. Jack gave Alec a hard look.

“Okay. Well. Arianna, this is my best friend, Alec. Alec, this is my 16 year old sister, Arianna.” Jack introduces us stiffly.

Alec holds out his hand.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, miss.” He says.

I roll my eyes but shake his outstretched hand.

He happens to hold onto my hand a second too long for my liking and I could tell straight off that he was a player.

“Oh Jack. You have nothing to worry about. I’m sure my life can go on without needing too much attention from your player of a friend here.” I say to him

His whole body relaxes and you could tell I said the right thing, even if I did mean every single word.

“You don’t mean that, do you love?” Alec asks me and Jack tenses again.

“Don’t look so worried Jack.” I say then turn to Alec.

“I meant every single word. You’re a player and two years older than me because, your eighteen right?”

He nodded.

“But I turn nineteen at the end of November.” He protested.

“Yep. Two years older than me. I turn seventeen in a week or so.”

He sighs, clearly giving up.

I beam and wink at Jack.

“See? I told you you had nothing to worry about, big brother.” I say and waltz off to the garden to find some inspiration.

“I hope to see more of you soon, Miss Winters.” Alec says to my retreating back in a fake English accent.

“What ever you say Alec.” I say and round the corner.

Wandering around the garden, I saw plenty of beautiful things and even though they inspired me, nothing seemed right for my room.

I had finished painting my bedroom and had almost finished painting my en suit.

My next quest had been to look for inspiration for my wardrobe because a walk in wardrobe can not afford to be bland. It just can’t.

Because really, who wants to get dressed in some boring old, plain wardrobe that will put you off creating the perfect out fit…

I think I have blabbered on for long enough about my wardrobe, haven’t I?

So, wandering aimlessly around the gardens hasn’t helped much and I am thinking that I need to get out of the house for a bit.

But, alas, I get distracted as usual.

I stop at the fireplace in the house and notice a picture with triplets in it and absently lift my hand up and touch the locket on my neck.

Then I notice the entrance to the attic and realize that I have never been up there so I pull down the ladder and climb up.

Pushing cobwebs and coughing dust away I look around the attic.

After a while I seemed to make it look more like a hangout area than an attic and decided that this was my ‘go to’ place if anyone pisses me off or if I just don’t want to be disturbed because, even in your own room in a house filled with boys, you don’t get a lot of privacy.

Hearing my name being called down for dinner I leave my hide out and head to the event every normal home would call dinner.
