It was late when the group had arrived at their intended destination. Y/N had woken up after about an hour of uninterrupted sleep to Ed leaning on his shoulder. He didn't mind, of course. Ed was his crush, after all. He was just much more smooth about it. Ed would, on occasion, stumble over his words and blush furiously. He would purposely sit as far away from Y/N as he could when this happened to regain his composure. Y/N didn't mind, it meant he could study the blond. Sneaking glances, smiling to himself, and sometimes full on staring at him if he could get away with it.

He looked back to his sketchbook that was still resting on his leg. It was undisturbed and Y/N almost let out an audible sigh of relief. He picked it up and saw the picture he had been most recently working on.

It was a drawing of Ed. *insert picture above's description bc I'm a lazy author-sama* it was unfinished, of course. He had yet to outline and color it, but he was proud of what he had accomplished. He closed the book and put it in his bag. He looked up to find that Al was nowhere to be seen. Well, until he heard meowing from an old woman and her cat that Alphonse was currently holding in his arms, purring audibly from across the train-cart.

He felt something shift on his shoulder and looked over to find that Ed was sleeping soundly. They were about to pull into the station and Y/N didn't have the heart to wake the blond boy resting on him. It was just when Al came over to rouse his brother that Y/N stopped him.

"Let him sleep. I'll carry him if you get the luggage." He said in a hushed tone. Al just smiled internally and nodded. All was going according to plan.

Wait what?

Shh, don't worry about it.

The train stopped and the all the passengers left the car. Al carried the luggage, and Y/N carried a sleepy Ed bridal style to the nearest hotel. Al piped up and said he would check them in when he walked through the door. Y/N struggled with Ed, who was way heavier than he looked due to the automail. He laid the boy on a bench in the waiting room and waited for Al.

Al, the ship lord almighty, had been up to no good. He booked a room with only one bed. It wasn't uncommon for the brothers to do this, seeing his lack of ability to sleep, but with Y/N here it would make things a bit more awkward.

When Al walked over to where his comrades were sitting, he found a still sleeping Edward's head resting on Y/N's lap. Y/N was running a hand through his bangs lazily as he waited for Al. Al noticed that Y/N had bags under his eyes from being so tired. He tossed the groggy boy the room key and took it upon himself to move the sleeping boy in his lap. They made their way to the correct room and Y/N unlocked the door.

"Hey, Al. I think they made a mistake. There's only one bed in here." Y/N said to the armored boy with his crush scooped up in his arms. Al decided to feign innocence.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. I'm used to only getting booking for Ed and I. Do you want me to go request another room?" He asked, knowing that Y/N was too polite and too tired to give a shit at this point.

"No it's fine. It was an accident. I'll sleep on the floor tonight. Give Edward the bed." Y/N yawned.

Al, again, used his great acting skills and his persuasiveness to see his ship set sail.

"The bed seems to be big enough for the both of you. I don't think Ed would mind." I really don't think you would mind either.

"Ugh, fine." Y/N said as he kicked off his shoes. "I'm really in no position to refuse a good nights sleep." He trailed off.

Al just smirked and set Ed down on the bed. Y/N crawled in beside him and pulled the covers over himself and his new bedmate. He pushed all intrusive thoughts about Ed away as he laid there, slowly drifting off to sleep. When he had fallen asleep, Ed fist-bumped Al and turned his back to Y/N's. He felt a shift in the bed and an arm wrap around his waist.

Yep. He was totally okay with this.

---

Ed was bleeding. Ed was bleeding bad. It was everywhere, and Y/N was panicking. They had been separated from Alphonse when the roof collapsed, and Edward had decided to be an idiot and shielded Y/N from the falling rubble. He wouldn't have been able to transmute anything in time, so he did the next best thing.

The enemy was defeated, and now the only thing they had left to do was get out of there. That before simple task was now made complicated by the fact that Y/N was desperately applying pressure to the wound on Ed's stomach.

"Just hang on. Just hang on, okay Ed?" Y/N whispered as he heard Al moving the large pieces of junk blocking the two boys inside. Ed's eyes were becoming unfocused and distant.

"Edward! Edward Elric! You stop it right now. Look at me!" Y/N screamed. Ed's eyes snapped awake again and he looked over at Y/N. He could tell that at least two of his ribs were broken, and that he was bleeding a lot from a wound in his side. Other than that, shock made him numb.

"Edward, I swear to God if you die I will never forgive you. You've still got so much to do. Al is still trapped in that armor, and you've still got to get your arm and leg back. E-Ed, you can't die. I've still got so many stories to tell you, and We've got so many stories to make. I still have so much to tell you." Y/N's voice was shaking as tears were forming in his eyes, "Y-You can't go, E-Ed. I-I lo-" The wall crumbled and light flooded into the room. Ed wasn't responding when they called his name. He had fallen unconscious. Y/N couldn't hear anything but the muffled sound of Al picking up his brother, and his own ragged breaths.
