Latching Onto You

About a month has passed

I woke up for school and threw on a long knit sweater and fitted black Tee with some skinny black jeans. I walked out the house with my phone in my hand. As I was walking, Kelly grabbed me and kissed my forehead. "Hey", I said wrapping my arm around his waist. "You lookin too nice!" He said looking at my outfit. I giggled and looked at his outfit. He had on an adidas track jacket with adidas joggers and some black and white Jordan's. "You look clean", I said nodding my head.

"With yo beautiful self", he said smacking my butt. "Do not do that again", I said softly pushing him. He put his hands in his pockets and smiled as we continued walking to school. I lifted my phone to take a selfie and he bent down to get in it. "Stop!" I said pushing his head away. "Walk up a little", I said. "Why?" He asked. "I don't want you in my picture", I said. He put his hand on his chest and looked at me like he was hurt.

"You can get in the next one", I said. I snapped the picture and lightly giggled because I was so happy that the pic turned out good. "Now let me get in", he said. "Fine", I said getting back on camera. Kelly bent down to get in. He put up the middle fingers and stuck his tongue out. "No!" I said pushing his hand down.

"Why?" He asked. "I'm a child of god", I said. "No you my child", he said. "Since when", I asked with my hand on my hip. "Since now", he said. "Let me do the caption", he said snatching my phone. "I didn't even give you permission", I said. He handed me my phone back and I read the caption. "With Daddy 😍". "The hell", I said out loud. He laughed and snatched the phone again. "Making sure you don't change the caption", he said posting it to Snapchat.

I sighed. My phone started ringing and he looked at the contact name. "Momma is calling", he said looking at me. I laughed and reached for my phone. He answered it and put it up to his ear. "Kelly!" I said hitting him. "Hello", he said. He put it on speaker and she responded. "Hey, who's this?" She asked. "Kelly", he said like she knew him or something. "Who's Kelly?" She asked. "Your son in law", he said. "When'd my daughter get married?" She asked.

"She hasn't but she will soon so I just went ahead and gave myself the title", he said. My mom laughed. "So you're my daughter's boyfriend?" She asked. "Yes ma'am", he said. "I'll have to meet you one day", she said. "Let me speak to my daughter", she said. "You didn't tell me you had a lil boyfriend", she said excitedly. "I was waiting", I said looking at Kelly like "look what you did".

"Well I'll talk to you when I get home mom", I said. "Okay, I didn't want anything", she said.

"Wanna get on my back?" Kelly asked randomly. "Um sure I guess", I said. "You need to bend down", I said to Kelly. He squatted. I jumped as high as I could. "You got hops girl", he said. "I know. I told you I played basketball at my old school", I said smirking.

"Aw yeah!!!! I forgot!!!", Kelly said excitedly. "You should join here", he added. "I don't know", I said. "Well it's fine that was just a suggestion", he said. We walked up to the doors of our school and headed to our lockers.

I walked up to my friend Jalen and hit him. "Ah!" He said laughing. He grabbed me and play hit me softly. I laughed and he picked me up. "Put me down!" I yelled laughing. He finally put me down and walked off with some boy. I headed outside for my free period to find Kelly. I waved at a girl named Shina and another girl named Kacey. I finally found Kelly talking to his best friend Asia. "Hey Asia", I said. "Hey..." she said like they'd been talking about me. "What?" I asked.

She pointed at Kelly as he stared into the parking lot obviously thinking about something. "Hey babe", I said wrapping my arms around his waist. He pushed my hands down and walked off. I walked behind him. "What is it?" I asked following him. He opened the school door and kept walking. "What is it?" I asked tapping him. "Just get away from me", he said trying to keep calm.

"Why?" I asked confused. "Lonnie, just go somewhere, you making me mad", he said still trying to keep his calm. "I don't know what I did", I said. I grabbed his arm with my hands trying to pull him back to me. He yanked his arm out of my grip and kept walking down the hallway. "What's wrong with you!" I yelled. "Lonnie get the fuck away from me!" He yelled with his lip turned up like I was his enemy or something. I stormed off and felt my eyes water.

Don't cry. I was so confused and mad. I started walking to grab my bag out of my locker. "Nothing lasts forever", I whispered to myself. I was thinking about leaving school but I talked myself out of it. "He'll cool off later", I said calming myself.

School was over and I headed outside. Usually Kelly would be waiting for me or hiding somewhere to scare me. I looked around for him and started to get nervous. He's really that mad? Maybe something happened and he wasn't in the mood. I walked up to the street and he was nowhere to be found. A tear slid down my cheek and I swiped it off. I can't cry over him. I started to walk home.

I got home and I saw Kelly unlocking his front door. I ran up to him and stood in front of the door.

"What's going on Kelly? Why are you so mad?" I asked. Kelly pushed me to the side and slammed the door in my face. I walked into my house and saw my dad in the kitchen. "You okay honey?", he asked. "I'm okay", I lied walking into my room.
