Chapter 22: Meet the family

With every stride you took your feet became heavier and your heart was pounding straight out of your chest as your destination neared; Lachlan's hospital room was so close now. As you took a corner you ran into someone and listened as you heard a thud from the impact and the squeaking of Berwald and Gilbert's shoes as they stopped. A shocked gasp grasped your attention; tears pooled in your eyes as you looked at the (same hair colour as you) male.

You: flinging your arms around his neck
REECE!

Reece waisted no time with pulling his little sister into a tight embrace, leaving you to slightly dangle off the ground. Once he placed you back down he ran a hand through your hair and allowed a few stray tears to fall... Then he caught sight of the two boys behind you.

Reece: wrapping his arm around your shoulder
(Special nickname), are these guys with you?

You: nodding with a smile
Yeah; the one standing on the left is Berwald and the one on the right is Gilbert.... He was the one that got me here.

Reece: mumbling to himself
Not a single chance in hell that he is Mr. Right for my little sis.

You: cocking your head up at Gilbert
What was that? No one understands you when you mumble.

Reece: releasing his arm off you
Everyone is in the room with Lachlan, let's go now and I'll get the coffee later.

Gilbert was hesitant to follow the two siblings at first, but the moment Berwald was in front of him he leaped into action and took his 'rightful' place ahead of the Swede. In the Germanic boy's mind, being seen as a leader in front of your parents is necessary to create a strong first impression.
You'd never forget your family's reaction when they saw you walk into the hospital room; even Lachlan's heart skipped a beat, thanks to the heart monitor quickly beeping to indicate that.
When you saw Lachlan hooked up to all the wires and the ugly bandage plastered around his shoulder, you were such an emotional wreak; but big brothers know who to fix that. Lachlan allowed you to snuggle up to him in his hospital bed, leaving your parents going 'aww', Reece wanting in on the touching moment and Adrain standing next to Gilbert and Berwald, quietly sussing out the two.

Gilbert: whispering to Berwald
They're really touchy-feely..... Are ve sure they're not into incest?

Adrian: stomping on Gilbert's foot
Next time you say that, it's your family jewels.

Berwald covered his face with his hand, but a small snicker got out before he was able to stop it.

Adrian: glaring up at Berwald
Both of you.
I know you both know nothing about family; your just dirty minded pigs!

Dad: raising his voice
Adrain!

The young boy turned around to face his parents, confused as to why he was being scolded for protecting his siblings.

Mum: getting up
How about we three go and get the coffee?

Your parents walked towards the door and your mum snatched at Adrain's ear, dragging him out off the room.
Everyone was quiet for a second and then you sat up in the bed, being struck by an idea.

You: jumping off the bed
Isn't this the hospital that has the amazing chocolate milkshakes?

Lachlan: sitting up and smiling
Why did you think I insisted on coming to this one?

You: running out the door
Be right back guys, I'm gonna order us all one each.

The two brothers smiled as they watched their deeply beloved sister scampering off, then they both turned their heads in unison at the two 'intruders'.
