Chapter 28: Unexpected

(Random city) is still as charming as you remember, flourishing with overseas tourists, it's well known fish markets and of recently it's gained bit of a reputation as a 'gamblers paradise' due to a MASSIVE casino that opened about a decade ago. But one painfully obvious fact kept weighing down your spirits; you were stranded with NOTHING, but the seawater smelling clothes you wore. The city centre was buzzing and probably more lively that (home city)'s; the amount of buskers was outrageous, but it could also be your meal ticket if you were sneaky enough. One would assume due to the vast amount of buskers, you'd have a greater chance of not being asked by an officer if you had a license to busk in this city if the ratio to asks was 1 to ever 15 buskers they asked. However the question now is 'what will you do?' Your somewhat able to drop a few decent moves and could set up your busking station beside someone who was playing music so you could have a beat and rhythm... Nope, next idea. Singing? Who are you trying to fool? You can't hit the right notes and always receive comments like "Thanks for the Bigfoot mating call demonstration; can you start singing now?" or "Have you booked the phycologist yet? Cause I'm certain your vocal cords are trying to tell us that there is something seriously wrong with you." ... And Adrian wonders why you no longer want to sing to his piano playing; that kid roasts you so much, it's a mystery why you haven't spontaneously combusted yet.

A sigh of utter defeat bursted out and you forcefully plonked yourself down on a bench, eyeballing your shoes which have been chafing and blistering your feet. From the corner of your eye a blurred black blob caught your attention and your head pivoted to face a smiling little girl with hair as black as the night pinned up in a milkmaid braid.

Hmm.
She doesn't seem to have anyone supervising her.
Sadly your mind wondered quickly back to what happened with Carter.
Then the very next thought you had was...
$$$!

You: being friendly
Hi there! Are you lost sweetie pie?

Oceana: opening up her bright eyes
I was told to stay here, mammy is in the shop!

The moment the little angel opened up her eyes, you were immediately convinced that you were looking at Lachlan, they were identical to his.

You: smiling
I-is that so? Well I'm ____, is it okay if I sit here for a little bit?

Oceana: giggling and putting up three fingers
Yap! I'm Oceana and I'm th-three!

3 years old?
Has Lachlan's eyes?
Has Savannah's hair colour?
Ocean themed names are something Lockie has always adored...
...
Could it be true? Did she really ---
Nahhh! It can only be one thing...
THE ILLUMINATI!

Oceana began waving over to a lady with black hair pulled up into a messy bun and carrying a few shopping bags; the lady didn't pay too much attention to you as she leaned over to kiss her child on the forehead.

Oceana: giggling
Meet ma friend!

You awkwardly looked over at a bunch of people twiddling your thumbs, hopping that you wouldn't need to engage in socialising.

Oceana: tapping you on the shoulder
_____! This is ma mammy!

You quickly turned your head to face the pair to flash a quick and forced smile, but time slowed down as you made eye contact with the woman. She seemed to be glued on your face as much as you were on her's.

I'm just gonna say it now...
Well howdy Aunty ____!

You: forcing out all the oxygen from your lungs
Savannah!?!

She blinked at you for a second and dropped her head in disgrace.

Savannah: sighing
... Hey...

You: tearing up
Y-you didn't do it... Y-you didn't do it!

Savannah: tearing up
I couldn't, I wasn't gonna kill a precious life... But I also didn't want to kill Lockie's future.

Oceana: confused
Wat?

Savannah: snapping back to normal
Wat what?

Oceana: giggling
Wat Wat WAT!?!

Savannah: pulling out a lollipop from the shopping bag and giving it to Oceana
Well here she is, your little niece ____; the child of the ocean.

You: pointing at Oceana
Is it okay if she hears us talk about 'him'?

Savannah: smirking
She zones out as soon as she has candy in her mouth... Proceed.

You: watching her with loving eyes
When do you plan on telling Lockie?
He's still heartbroken and celebrates his unknown baby's birthday every December.

Savannah: sighing
First of all, she's actually born on the 2nd of January... But he's close.
Second, I'm still trying to figure that out, I want Lockie to have his life on track before I drop the bombshell.
Please don't tell anyone yet!

You: unsure
I won't tell him, but it seems unfair, but as long as you promise to tell him, I'll respect your wishes.
What do you do anyway?

Savannah: pointing over to a Gym
I run that establishment over there, I make a killing and have almost finished paying off the debt to my parents for buying it. Even Oceana is in training to become a personal trainer, she really gets everyone motivated.
What are you doing here?

You: rubbing your neck
It's a long story, but bottom line I'm kinda broke and stranded here.

Savannah: rubbing her chin
Well that settles it! Your coming home with me and can tell me everything that has happened, plus I bet my parents would gladly lend you enough to get back onto your feet and back home.

You: embarrassed
No! No! No! Please don't! I can't rely on people to help me!

Savannah: frowning
I've kept Oceana a secret for so long, this is the least I can do!

You: sighing
If you really want to help, $10 is all I need and I'll get a bus ticket back home.

Savannah: pulling the money out and handing it over to you
Your as stubborn as your brothers, are you sure this is all? Just say the word an I can give you a few grand.

You: protesting
Absolutely not! I'd never be able to repay you!

You wrapped your arms around Oceana and gave her a quick hug before doing the same to Savannah; getting up and leaving the two before another word was able to be said. As you walked away from the bench you looked down at your hand that was clenching the money; now all that was left was to buy a bus ticket, get back to (home city), find the boys who have probably made it back to your family, be overwhelmed by all the terrified people who love you, them listen to them yell at you, not say a word about Oceana and wait for your parents to contact the school and organise a way back to the island or end up being dispelled.
You were so engrossed in thought that you didn't see where you were going...

"Oww a! Me a~foot a! It a~hurts more a~than a~fratello's (brother's) mean a~words a! ..... Bella?"
