"ZOELLYN MELLISA CRESCENT, YOU BETTER COME DOWN THIS INSTANCE OR IMMA BEAT THE CRAP OUT OFF YOUR ASS!" I shouted to my sister like a maniac.

It's just been one night I'm not home and the house is already a disaster. The pile of dishes in the sink not done, pizza boxes with some leftover slices on the table and chips wrappings on the couch.

"Uh uh, language, sister! Dont forget you still have an innocent 13-year-old hereeee." Zoe chanted from upstairs. I can hear her coming down from her room.

"What's up, sissie?" Zoe smiles brightly at me as if nothing's happened.

"Why is MY house in a destruction mode now?! It's only a night I'm out and you're giving these to me?!" I point my finger to the sink and the table and the couch too.

"Excusez-moi." She coughs."First of all, this is OUR house. Second of all, take this, this and this as your punishment for staying out there all night long." She points to the mess." You have dad worried sick. You didn't even bother to give us a call."

"Just because I'm not home for just one bloody night and you have the right to make the house a mess and even punish me?!" Sometimes I just can't believe that I have the ability to cope with my sister for more than a decade.

"Technically, yes. I have the right to do that cuz I'm your sister." She smirks. "Plus, I don't do things like staying out there all night long and make my family worry about me." Fine, she wins.

"Alright fine. I'm sorry that I've made you guys worried sick about me. Look, I'm still alive as usual, right? So why don't we end this argument and start cleaning up before dad gets home, sounds good?" I gave in. "By the way, where's dad?" I just realize that Zoe is the only one at home.

"I think he went to some sort of meeting in the woods." Zoe picks up a slice of the leftover pizzas and sniffs it. "Eww, that's gross. I should've left it in the fridge."

"Meeting?" Why didn't dad tell me there's a pack meeting earlier? I took out my phone and check the date. Oh crap. Another disaster.

"Oh shit! It's the 31st of January! My first monthly meeting! I'm so late! Dad's gonna kill me!" I'm so frickin freaked out right now. Dad did tell me yesterday morning but how could I forget? Damn, it must be the liqour. I rush to the door.

"Wait Jen. You're not going to the meeting in these, right?" Zoe points at my outfit with her eyebrows raised.

"Here you go." She takes out a pair of jeans from the pile of clean clothes on the couch and hands it to me. "Go on. I'll help you with the dishes." She starts to wash the dirty plates.

Well, sometimes the meanie Zoe can be so nice that you feel like hugging her so tight on your arms until she pops.

"Thank you, Zoe. I owe you one." I took off the pink shorts and put on the jeans.

"That's makes you remember your lesson, right? Don't stay out all night and don't make your family worry."
It's funny to see when she acts like a big sister.

I laugh a little and fake a cute voice. "Alrightey, big sister. I promise I'll be a good girl." I hug her from the back.

"Don't you have a meeting to host. Now, go on. Chop chop."

"Oh yeah right.

"Oh yeah, right. Bye Zoe. Love you." I rush out from the house and activate my full speed mode into the woods.

Dad's been stressing me with some jobs of an alpha, including this meeting. I'm supposed to host this pack meeting by myself as an alpha-to-be and I'm not supposed to be late. And now, guess what? I'm late to my first ever pack meeting. I'm so going to be grounded.

Once I've reached the location of the meeting, which is a clearing in the middle of woods, everybody is already sitting around the long wooden table, their eyes on me with frowns on their faces. Whispers flowing in and out off the crowd.

"And here comes our alpha-to-be." Says dad with a sarcastic tone. He stands up and walks to me,looking very stern."You've just break the first rule of being an alpha. Always be there when the pack needs you." I'm sure he doesn't mean I'm being late only.

"Well...I'm here for you now." I gave him an awkward smile."Shall we begin?" I take my seat.

"Yes, you may." He sits down too.

"Is there anything you need to bring up?" I go straight to the point. I look at the council of the pack.I fold my hands on the table and straighten my sitting posture.

The meeting lasted for an hour or so, which is like a century to me. It didn't go as smoothly as how dad had handled the previous ones for years.

Everything was fine until they brought up an argument about a minor issue. It could've been settled easily but they just kinda shut me out like I'm not the host of the meeting. I felt so pathetic and upset at the same time. Why wouldn't they just listen to me?

Fortunately, dad's there for me. He helped me to sort the argument out and asked the council to listen to what I have to say. He's always by my side whenever I need him. Just like he always says 'Always be there when the pack needs you.' Finally, they're convinced to my solution. I never felt so relieved. Then, the meeting's over with a conclusion. These wolves are just so hard in their heads, aren't they?

"Tough time for ya, Jen. You'll get used to it. Sometimes the council will be kinda hard to convince." Dad pats my shoulder with a smile.

"Dad, I just feel I'm not the alpha type of wolf you want me to be. What if I fail you? I just feel I'm not ready to take the responsibility. Maybe you should pick someone else instead of me." Sigh sigh sigh.

"You're my daughter, Jen. How could I just simply pick anybody else? You're no failer, Jen. I can see that in you. You're born a great leader that do great things. I just know it."

I stare at him. Trails of ages carved all over his face. His hair has turned grey. How long was it since I carefully observe his face? I didnt even notice he has aged so much all these years. This man in front of me had definitely sacrifice and dedicate his life to the pack, and mostly, to the family. Maybe it is time for him to take a break.

"I promise I won't let you down. I'll try my best to be the alpha and the daughter you want me to be." I hug him.

"I want you to be your very self. Face the odds with your true self. That's what makes a leader great." He lets go of me."Now, gimme that smile, will ya? I hate to see my precious jewel frowning." He messes my hair with his hand like he used to do when I was a cub.

I smile.
