1) when you set up a chore schedule, she completely disobeys it and leaves you to do them all on your own

The first week in our dorm, things quickly became a huge mess. Dishes were piled up in the sink, laundry was blanketing the floor, trash bags sat in a pile by the door, and a layer of dust was beginning to accumulate on every open surface. I barely had time to do all the chores on my own and Maya wasn't volunteering to help. So I did the natural thing, I set up a chore schedule and taped it to the fridge for Maya to see.

Another week or so passed and the mess in the apartment hadn't gotten any better.

"Maya!" I called down the hall, "Did you see the chore schedule I put on the fridge?"

"Yup..." She trudged down the hallway and dumped another dirty plate in the sink.

"And you haven't been doing them?" I asked her.

"Why would I?" She asked and plopped down on the couch, having to kick a sweatshirt out of the way.

"Maya, are you looking at this place? It's trashed. Something needs done about it. I've done my part; you need to do yours too." I spoke up.

"Okay. Fine." She huffed and disappeared back into her room.

By the end of the week, her chores still weren't done. I tried to talk to her about them and clearly that didn't work. So I resorted to my last option: a sticker chart with rewards. And that only seemed to make her want to do it even less. I found it funny that her room was completely spotless. So clearly she wasn't entirely opposed to cleaning.

The next day I sat her down at the table and told her we needed to talk. I slid a piece of rainbow-colored paper and a sheet of glittery star stickers across the wood surface. She seemed confused. Then I realized... The rainbow paper, the glittery stickers... This was Maya I was talking to, not my niece Riley. But I had to continue on. It was too late to back out now. So I then proceeded to explain that this would go along with the cleaning and chore schedule. I told her there would be rewards. I could take her out to dinner or a movie or something like that.

In the end, it all seemed very childish. But it would have to do...

A/N: and the end of chapter one guys... What did you think? Better than the prequel? Or worse? (I hope not worse...) Well until next time...
