8) sleep walks and always ends up making a mess of the apartment

I heard the creaking of the hardwood floors for the first time in weeks. It was about three in the morning and I knew Maya was sleepwalking again, a habit that she had only if she was having bad dreams.

I laid in bed for a few minutes, hoping she would wake herself up or eventually lead herself back to her bedroom. Then I started hearing crashes and skids as she knocked things of counters and tables and ran into chairs.

I pushed off the covers and felt the cold flooring beneath my bare feet. I reached for my shirt, only to find that it was no longer at the end of the bed. I left my room without it.

Maya was walking through the living room. The kitchen chairs were scattered everywhere. A few oranges had rolled all the way over by the door. A cup of water had been knocked into the sink and the water had spilled all over the counter. I would take care of that after I got Maya settled. Remotes were on the floor in the living room. I had to grab her before she tripped on one.

"Maya!" I called. She probably couldn't hear me though.

I walked up to her and grabbed her shoulders. She tried to keep walking but I was too strong for her and she ended up not going anywhere.

"Maya..." I repeated, this time a lot quieter.

I wrapped my arms around her and sat on the couch, pulling her into my lap. I stroked her hair and let her head rest against my chest.

"It's okay, Maya. I'm right here. I've got you. It's okay." I told her. She moaned and squirmed closer to me.

"Josh?" She whispered, blue eyes fluttering open to look at me.

"Shhhhh... I'm right here."

She snuggled closer and wrapped her arms around my neck, burying her face against me. Her hair smelled amazing. I didn't want her to leave. Ever.

"Another bad dream?" I asked.

"Mmmhmm..." She seemed really tired, "Can you just hold me?"

"Of course." And that's all we did. I held her close. The blanket off the back of the couch ended up wrapped around us and I laid down with her tiny frame on top of me. I kissed the top of her forehead, happy to know that she wanted to be here with me in the moment. And it was perfect.

A/N: oh my gosh... time just slips away from me! i apologize for not posting this sooner. i also apologize for it being so short. but i hope you enjoyed!
