10) trashes all dates you have and won't shut up about how you can do better

Veronica~
I had been wary of bringing girls to the apartment since the school paired me with Maya as my roommate. I figured it would be awkward to bring any dates home too soon. But now we were a month and a half into school and I was really into this girl Veronica. I figured now was as good a time as any.

When I unlocked the front door and showed Veronica inside, I heard Maya banging around in her room with her paints and music. I prayed she wouldn't realize I was home and would just stay in her room for the next few hours.

Veronica and I sat on the couch and turned on the movie. I got us some chips and drinks and settled in next to her, sliding my arm around her shoulders. I could actually focus on something as simple as a movie for the time being.

Then I heard the fridge slam. I knew Maya was out of her room. But Veronica was short so there was a chance that Maya didn't see her. And the statement she made proved that she didn't.

"Josh, why are you watching a stupid sappy romance movie? You hate those things." She remarked.

I slowly turned and found her standing in the middle of the kitchen, hand on her hip and a Coke in her hand and her head cocked to the side in confusion. She began to walk towards me and leaned over the back of the couch.

"Oh my God! Josh actually got a date! Jeez, I didn't even know there was girl there. Don't let me interrupt." She smiled coyly, knowing very well that she already had.

"Maya..." I grumbled through gritted teeth.

Then she leaned in real close and whispered in my ear, "You could honestly do so much better." And stalked away.

Abby~
The encounter between Maya and Abby was way worse than what had happened between Maya and Veronica. Nothing could've prepared me for what happened that night.

I brought Abby home after a football game and putting it lightly, someone had offered her a can of beer which she accepted graciously. In other words, she may or may not have been drunk. Looking back on it, it was a stupid idea to bring her home in her intoxicated state, especially since Maya has such a low tolerance for alcohol in general.

Abby flopped on the couch, giggling obnoxiously about the homeless guy we saw on a bench in a park. I didn't understand what was so funny about that. Then she started babbling about how her uncle's cat was homeless too. That made even less sense. And Abby wasn't being exactly quiet at 11 o'clock at night. Maya's bedroom light was turned off and I could tell she was trying to sleep. If Abby woke her up, one of us was screwed. It would most likely be me.

I had called it. Ten minutes later, Maya came storming down the hall in her underwear and a tank top. Her messy hair was piled in a bun on top of her head and she looked really pretty without any makeup on.

"What is going on right now, Josh?" She didn't even shout. That's how I could tell she was really mad.

"Sorry... I think she may have had too much to drink and she won't listen to me."

"Then take her home!" Maya said, then froze up, "Wait, did you say drink?"

"Yeah. As in alcohol, Maya."

I know she's know plenty well what I meant and saying that only made her more mad but I was tired and when I'm tired, I don't think very well.

"Come here. Lemme smell your breath." She folded her arms across her chest. I felt like I was coming home from a sketchy high school party to my stressed mother all over again.

I let her smell my breath even though I hadn't been drinking or anything.

"You didn't drink, did you?" She still didn't seem to believe it though.

"No. It was just Abby, I promise you."

"Are you kissing another girl?" Abby screeched, finally getting some sense in her but at the entirely wrong timing.

"No, Abby. No." I shook my head fiercely.

"I don't believe you. She's even standing here in underwear! You're dating someone else behind my back!" She screeched louder and louder. I was surprised the neighbors hadn't banged down the door and told me to shut up yet.

Abby stood up, staggered over to Maya, and slapped her across the face. Maya stood there in shock for a second but then tackled Abby to the ground, pulling her hair with her knee digging between Abby's shoulder blades.

"Ow ow! Let go of me!" Abby was literally crying and inside, I was dying of laughter. Outside, I walked over and scooped up Maya. I plopped her on the couch.

"You stay there. We'll have a little chat when I get home." I pointed to her but smoothed a hand over her head, "And you," I turned to Abby, "I'm talking you home. Your roommate can deal with your drunk butt."

Things had gotten way out of hand that night. But what surprised me most of all was that I defended Maya over my girlfriend at the time.
