Chapter 2
The Attic…
Sofia stomped through the damp, dingy house and called down to Florence,
“Mind out on the front step of the stairs, Flo. It’s getting creaky.”
Isaac bounced into the kitchen, his stomach rumbling. He opened the fridge eagerly and took out some weird coloured milkshake.
“Flo, what do your parents buy? This milkshake tastes of blood!”
Florence narrowed her eyes at Isaac and got out two glasses. Suddenly the lights flickered and the door slammed shut, a shadow was emerging from the bottom of the stairs. It was only Sofia, trying to sneak up on Isaac; she cackled and ran her fingers down his back. Isaac squealed and pushed Sofia out of the way.
“Get away from him, you know he hates that!” Florence said angrily. Isaac started laughing uncontrollably and fell to the floor. Sofia stared at him and her face turned into a grin, “Why you’re going out with such an IDIOT, I don’t know!”
Florence ignored her sister and thought to herself,
“Why had my parents burdened me with an older sister? Why?” She turned to Isaac and said to him,
“Let’s go to the attic and see if my Mum and Dad have hidden any presents for me up there!”
They dashed up the old stairs and made sure they dodged the top step, Sofia had proberly booby-trapped it to fall through when someone stepped on it. Isaac, panting hard, trudged up the attic stairs following Flo who was walking like nothing mattered.
“This is where they hide the Christmas presents every year. I don’t know why they put them here. We found ‘em a couple of years ago and we come here whenever they’re asleep, not here or just not paying enough attention!”
Suddenly, the door of the attic bounded shut, and Isaac shivered nervously. The temperature had dropped, the door was closed and because they were no lights he couldn’t see his blonde haired best friend anywhere!
“Flo … Flo … where are you? You know I’m absolutely pet … petrified of the dark in here! Man, it stinks in here; I can almost taste the dust in my mouth!”
Florence appeared quite suddenly with a crazy look in her eyes, “I’ve found the Christmas presents!”
