Cal could sprint without feeling any burning or cramps in his body. He felt like he could run he whole world and never lose breath. Though, Wyatt seemed to be getting exhausted, he pushed on.
Cal knew his neighbourhood by heart, he knew where Wyatt was heading. There is a great end to the ground just a mile away past the upcoming road in the forest.
People normally go there to look at the sunset and down some quality time with their loved ones. Wyatt, on the other hand, had a plan to go beyond that cliff. It was true, Cal couldn't run out of air, but Wyatt was a runner, so it seemed impossible to catch up, but Cal extended his stride and even leaned forward to gain a small boost of speed. If he fell on his face, that would be it for both him and Wyatt.
The sun shone through the opening of trees like an eye that watched eagerly as the two made their way to the end, in suspense as to whether or not Wyatt would be saved.
Change:
Cal was gaining and was a few yards behind now. The end was only half a mile away. If the fates are in his favour, he will catch up before Wyatt can set a foot into nothing, plummeting to his death.
As the end came nearer, time seemed to move slower, and slower, and slower still.
It felt as if he were moonwalking, a foot would last five seconds off of the ground before touching it again.
He could almost touch Wyatt at this point, the end was only steps away.Cal reached out and grabbed a hold of Wyatt's shirt and tugged it back. Wyatt stopped and looked back.
"Who's... there?" He said, panting for breath.
Cal opened his mouth and began to speak. "Wyatt."Wyatt jumped and looked around. "Show yourself!"
"I'm standing right in front of you," Cal approached Wyatt and placed a hand on his cheek. "It's me. Cal."Wyatt put his hand over Cal's and began to cry again. "Where are you?"
"I'm right here..." Cal said, beginning to cry as well. He regrets ever taking his own life so much, but he's happy that he saved Wyatt just in time.Wyatt ran his hands down Cal's arms until he could pull him into a hug. Cal hugged back and took a deep breath of relief.
"I miss you..." Wyatt whispered.
"Don't do it... don't do as I did." Cal whispered back. "It's not worth it.""Okay. I won't. But will you wait for me?"
"I'll be ready for you when you arrive."
"What?" Wyatt pulled away and tried to look Cal in the eye. "You can't stay?"
"No, I can't... but we'll meet again soon. Okay?"
Wyatt gave Cal one last hug and uttered a "yes."Wyatt could feel when Cal had left, just as the sun's glow had left his side of the planet for the night.
"Thank you." He whispered, looking up to the sky. He didn't know where Cal had gone, or even if his own imagination had saved him; but he took the advice that Cal gave him either way. It would be hard, but he promised to move on.
