Chapter 2

Atholee's POV

I'm at home packing my suitcase for tomorrow. My mother is helping me pick out what I want to bring with me. It's not a lot considering I'll be getting some clothes from my godmothers. Yes I have two godmothers, don't ask me why because I don't know.

"That's everything?" My mother asks.

"Yes mummy." I reply.

"Alright yuh dinna deh pon di table." (Alright your dinner is on the table.)

I go into the bathroom to wash my hands and go into the kitchen.

On the table I see a plate of food which consists of chicken's back and white rice. (A/N Let's just say it isn't anyone's favourite meal.)

Not my favourite but that's all we can afford. Lets just hope that we'll be able to do better soon.

Raven's POV

"Yuh ready?" Atholee asks over the phone. (You ready?)

"Yeh you?" I say. (Yeah you?)

I'm currently on my way to the airport with my mother, brother and stepfather.

I'm suppose to meet the girls there outside so we can check in on our flight.

"Yeh," she says, "Mi an mi mada deh a Islan Grill, tex mi when yuh reach." (Yes) (My mother and I are at  Island Grill, text me when you get here.)

Island Grill is a Jamaican restaurant. Obviously. It's like a Jamaican McDonald's.

"Is Nickiela there?" I ask.

"No, not yet."

"Ok, I'll text you when I get there."

"Alright."

After a few more minutes we arrived at the airport. I texted Atholee like I said I would and met her inside of Island Grill. I said hello to her mother and started talking to Atholee until Nickiela came along with Kaci.

"I didn't know that she was coming with us." I said to Atho.

"She isn't." She said with confusion written all over her face.

"Hi" Nicki said after saying hi to our parents.

"Hey," Atho and I said in unison while hugging the girls.

"Why are you here?" I asked Kaci.

"Yuh mek it soun like seh yuh nuh like mi." Kaci said jokingly. (You make it sound like you don't like me.)

I laughed and said, "No, I meant I wasn't expecting you to be here."

"But mi couldn' jus mek unu lef widout deh seh bye, don't?" She said.(But I couldn't just let you leave without saying bye right?)

I smiled. That's just Kaci. I know she's a bit upset about not being able to come with us but we told her that we would need someone to spread the word about us entering the competition I mean we're gonna need the support from our own country.

"Girls, let's go join the check in line," my mother said.

The girls and I grabbed our bags and join the check in line. Our flight was leaving at 6 o’clock but we had to check in an hour early. The line was really long so it would take a while for us to get to the front desk. While waiting the girls and I talked about any and everything, like i said it was a really long line. We got to the front desk after a while and learnt that we wouldn't have to wait long because our flight was boarding in about 15 minutes. When we got to gate number 9 we started to say goodbye to Kaci and boarded the plane. We're going to New York and Atholee said that because we're flying with American airlines, we have to go around Cuba so it might take a while.

I've never been over seas before so I'm a bit nervous for my first flight. It looks like Nicki is nervous as well because she was breathing heavily with a look of fright on her face.

"Yuh nervous?" Atho asked Nicki.(Are you nervous?)

"Very." She answered.

Atholee smiled and told her that nothing was going to happen.

Nicki calmed down a bit...

Until take off.
