"You wouldn't know what burning feels like, even if it showed up at your door."It's been a week since your break up with Jack. A break up that was all your fault.
How could you be so stupid? How could you let yourself get drunk? How could you sleep with the wrong Jack?
You sat at the dinning table in your new apartment reading a book while waiting for your dinner to finish cooking. Though books had always helped you through tough times growing up, it wasn't this time.
Your heart was breaking even more with each thought you had of Jack. Jack Johnson, the only boy you have ever truly loved, the only boy who withholds your virginity, the only boy to ever tell you he loved you. And you hurt him.
You slammed the book down on the table and pulled at your hair while giving out loud sobs.
You hurt him.
You hurt him.
You hurt him.You recited those words over and over in your head as you pulled your legs up to your chest. You lay your head in your knees and continued to cry.
As you cried you heard your iPhone ring from your room. Over the whole week you always checked your phone, when you got messages, when it rang, when you got notifications, in hope that Jack has made some sort of contact with you. So you jumped up from you chair and ran to your room to get your phone.
Without checking the caller ID you answered.
"Hello" You said out of breath.
"Hey y/n, it's Jack, Gilinsky." He said through the phone and your heart dropped.
"What do you want Jack?" You asked a little to rudely.
"Chill baby, all I want is you." He said with a hint of flirt.
"I'm not your baby, we aren't anything. It was a drunken mistake and I lost the only man I've ever loved because of you." You hissed through the phone.
"Honey, you weren't the only one to lose someone. Since you had to open you mouth, Jack has opened his eyes, he went off at me and we aren't talking to each other at the moment. I don't think he's ever gonna forgive-"But before Gilinsky could finish there was a massive bang down stairs of your apartment.
"What was that?" He asked.
"I don't know" You whisper.
"It's probably Johnson, see as he's been a mess without you." He huffed out.
"Jack, shhh" You hushed him as you listened. Then you heard glass shattering like it exploded. You could hear crackling sounds and bangs. Then you smelt it. Smoke. Burning. Fire. You opened you door to see and you looked down the stairs to see the fire.
"Jack my apartment is on fire!" You screamed. The flames were growing fast, so fast that your path to get outside was blocked.
"Y/n! Get out of there!" He yelled.
"I can't, I'm upstairs and the whole bottom floor is drowned in flames!" You cried running back towards your room.
"Climb out the window or something-" You hung up the phone so you could call the firestation before realising it would be too late anyway. You turned towards the window and run for it. That's when you saw your mosquito screen. You had no way out.
You paced around quickly before remembering the bathroom upstairs doesn't have a mosquito screen and ran to the door.
You opened the door and flames exploded at you and you went flying backwards landing roughly on your back before falling unconscious.
-
As soon as you hung up the phone Gilinsky cursed under his breath before calling Johnson.
"What do you want?" Johnson growled as his answered his phone.
"Jack! You need to get to y/n's house!" He rushed out.
"No, I've realised I don't need her. She never wanted me any-"
"Shut the fuck up! Jack her apartment is on fire!" Gilinsky screamed at him.Johnson said nothing and hung up as he jumped in his car and sped to your apartment.
As he reached your apartment there was fire trucks and ambulances everywhere and smoke leaving the apartment block.
He rushed out of his car running towards the ambulance. He has never felt more determined to get to you in his life. That's when he realised, he does need you. You were a drug that he was addicted to, every time he saw your face he would question how he ended up with such a goddess. You were his rock, everything keeping him together. You were all he ever needed.
-
Your eyes opened and your skin was burning all over. You screamed out in pain. It felt like someone was stabbing you all over with a billion needles.
You cried out as you were lifted onto one of those ambulance beds. The men that lifted you onto the bed started to roll you towards the ambulance van.
"Y/n!" You heard him call your name.
"Jack" You whimpered. He reached you, his face was filled with fright and sadness. His eyes started watering at the sight of your slightly burnt skin.
"You were right Jack, I didn't know what burning felt like... until it showed up at my door." You whisper and salty tears ran down your cheeks, slightly stinging your fresh wounds.
"No, no, no. You didn't deserve that. This was my fault. I did this to yo-"
"Jack" You said with a small winch as you put your hand on his cheek. "You didn't start that fire in my home, but I wouldn't blame you. I started one in your heart, it would only be fair." You whispered slowly closing you eyes losing consciousness again.
"Hey- hey y/n! Open your eyes." Jack rushed out and your eyes sprung open.
"Jack.. You came." You mumbled as your eyes were droopy."Sir we need to get her to the hospital." One of the men said.
"I'm coming too!" Jack demanded and the men all gave each other looks before nodding.Jack jumped in the back of the van as you were wheeling up into it. He caressed your cheek with tears sliding down his face.
"I love you Y/n." He whispered, kissing your forehead.
