If anyone wants to get me a gift, tell 'em to get me this😂

We all are hanging around upstairs when the door slams. We all pile out and I hide behind Race. "Shit," he mumbled, "it's Snyder."

Snyder walks up to Mr. Kloppman.
"Excuse me. Can I help you?" Kloppman asks.

"You have a boy who calls himself Jack Kelly? I wish to see him," Snyder asks.

"Jack Kelly? Never heard of him. Never
heard of him. Any of you boys ever hear of a Jack Kelly?"

"That's an unusual name for these parts." says Specs.

Jack enters the room. Swifty stops Jack and points to Snyder. Jack smiles and hides behind me. I smile back at him. Race tells us to hide behind Mush so we do.

"Oh, you mean Jack Kelly. Yeah,
he was here, but he put an egg in his shoe and beat it." Race says. Everyone laughs.

"I have reason to believe he's an escaped prisoner, possibly dangerous." Snyder continues.

"Oh, dangerous? I better look in my files. This way please." Kloppman shows Snyder to a closet.

Jack leaves the lodging house and nobody knows where he goes.

"Give to the Newsies Strike fund, Mister?" Race asks. Snyder gives him a quarter.

Snyder soon leaves and we all laugh. Nobody knows where Jack went. We hope he comes back soon.

The next morning Jack shows up to the lodging house. Everyone starts to ask questions. He tells us that he's been with Sarah, David's sister.

When everyone was still talking about it outside, David wasn't happy. He yelled at Jack and Jack said he didn't do anything with her (winky face). I calmed down David and gave him a hug. Spot came over to me and pulled me off of him.

"Hello sweetcheeks, youse miss me?"
Oh crap.... "It isn't what it looks like!
Oh. Hi Spot!" I say as I spit-shake with him.
"Oh. Hi Spot!" Jack says as he comes over to us. They both spit-shake. "About the other night-"Not now Jack, we'll talk 'bout it later." Spot says. I look around at them and ask what happened.

Then Race comes running over to us. "Hey there man!" He spit shakes with Spot. Honestly I despise the "spit-shake" but I mean, if youse a newsie, youse gotta do it.

"So man, how ya been?" Race asks.
"I'm doin good Ise guess." He takes Race and Jack by the elbow and drags them a while away from me. I ain't able to hear them because everyone is screaming "Strike!" while others are having side conversations.

They come back when Race grabs my hand. He drags me over to an alleyway and starts to tell me what happened.

"Jewel, Jack and I were talking last night, and when you left we realized how much you are like Spot. You two have the same personality. Also, he REALLY likes you. He wants to ask you out again."

That was tough. But, I turned him down the first time. I guess I have to go tonight to Brooklyn and tell him how I feel.

"Tell him to meet me on the bridge by 8:35 tonight."

Race looked at me and turned around and left.

I walked over to Spot. "Meet me on the bridge by 8:35, come alone." I then walked away from him.

All the newsies gathered at Medda's theatre. I sat down in the front row next to Mush and Race. Jack invites Spot to come on and he looks at me. Both of them do. Then after some time talking everyone breaks out into fighting. David stops them and for once people listen to him.

The bulls start coming in and Jack yells at Spot to get me outta there. Jack gets pulled away and Race is still fighting.

"I'm surprised youse aren't crying," says Spot.
I shake my hand outta his grip. "I don't cry."
"I thought that all goils do, Jay."
"Maybe, they do, maybe they don't like speaking about it. Maybe Race was right when he said that we have the same personality. And maybe I do like you back." I ran back to the lodging house with Spot chasing after me.

I run upstairs and into the closet. I start to cry and hope that he doesn't come up. Instead he does come up and knocks on the closet door.
"Jewel, Ise sorry youse okay?"
*Sniffles*
"Oh my gosh are youse crying?"

He opens up the door and sees my eyes. I give him my hand and he helps me up. He pulls me close to him and he wipes my tears away. We sit down on my bed and we talk. I stop crying and we tell our stories.

"I never trust anyone. Especially my newsies." Spot says.
"Neither do I. Nobody needs to know."

He tells me his name is Gabriel, and he once came from a middle class family. He ran away because nobody liked him. He kept his last name but changed his first and told everyone to call him "Spot."

"Can Ise call you Gabriel?" I ask him.
"Whatever. Just don't tell me newsies. They'd flip."

I told him my story and he was a good listener. I started to trust him.
"Yes," I say.
"What?" he asks.
"Yes. I'll be your goil, Gabriel."
"Really? And don't overuse my name."
"Sorry, and yes really. I trust you."
"It's not easy for me ta trust people."
"Not for me either," I respond.

He pulls me in close to his chest and hugs me. We stay there like that for a while until Race comes in. Perfect timing Race!

"Oh, uh, sorry to interrupt this beautiful moment but, Jack is going on trial in an hour so do you mind lettin' us in?"

"What? They caught him?" I looked up and pulled away from Spot.

"Jewel," Race runs over to me and kisses my head. I hug him and start to cry again. Twice in one day, fantastic.

"I-I better go..." Spot says. He gets off my bed and walks out the door.

Spot P.O.V.
Yay! Spot's POV! Only took us this long to get to his!

I was told to take Jewel out of Medda's theatre when the bulls started to pile in. We ran out and she told me that she doesn't cry in front of people. I felt bad for her. I wanted to kiss her so bad, but we weren't together.

She ran into the lodging house and I chased her up the steps. She slams the door and I hear a second door close. I walk through the first door knowing that she is somewhere near another door. "Jewel, Ise sorry youse okay?" I ask. I hear sniffling from the other side. I open the closet door. "Oh my gosh, are youse crying?" I ask again. My heart drops. I don't know why, but it does.

She sticks out her hand and I help her up. We walk to her bunk and we sit together on the bed. I started to tell her about myself and "my story." I told her my real name. She told me her story.

I don't know why I trust her, but I do. Apparently she trusts me. She randomly says "yes" and that's when everything changes. I ask her what she meant, but she says that yes she would be my goil. I smiled and hugged her pulling her close to my chest.

Race walks in and things get awkward. I leave and she cries into Race's shoulder. I am so jealous. They have a special relationship. Although they ARE siblings. I had that same relationship with my sister, who is dead now. As I walk back to Brooklyn I check my watch. It is 4:47. I don't know if she will still come to the bridge or not, but I go there at night anyway.
