Stephen may have been young, but he could at least comprehend the hardest words in the dictionaries- of every language. He knew that his mother loved him. And he loved her back. Truly, he did. At the same time, however- he despised her.
WICKED. World In Catastrophe Killzone Experiment Department. That was the name of the prison that his mother, Ellamay stuck him in.
Oh, it certainly wasn't an actual prison. He got to attend the most prestigious school in the world, while being protected from the Flare- the most dangerous virus there was. There was, however, a huge catch. No interactions with other children. And to Stephen, that was the worst rule in the universe.
'WICKED- Who in their right minds would name a company WICKED?! I mean, if they're going to abduct us children, then at least choose a different name- like, SHELTER- Save the Helpless Environment and Life and Triumph in Exorcising the Rebels. That's a pretty good name. Yes, SHELTER, I'll go with that! Next time I see Chancellor Paige I'll recommend the name to her!'
A soft but familiar giggle was heard. Stephen's heart lifted.
'Re! How are you talking to me again? I thought our telepathic link was shut down by-' He was cut off.
'WICKED.' Teresa's tone was venomous, and the boy would have been terrified if it weren't for the fact that she was his best friend. And a 4 year-old, for that matter, but that wasn't enough to stop her from being a black-belt at karate.
'Yes, Re-Re, I hate them too, but honestly, how are you doing this?'
'Genius, you're forgetting that I officially earned the title, 'Smartest Person On Earth.' As long as I have my locket, I can do anything. Literally. And as for your other question, well, open your door a little.'
Shrugging, Stephen did as asked.
And what he saw was completely and utterly unexpected. Teresa was walking down the hall, chatting with the Chancellor. But that wasn't the surprising part.
She had no restraints, whatsoever. Teresa had come to work for WICKED- willingly. And that was when the screams started.
