Life Sentence by Gary Travis

"Mr Lawrenson you are hear by found guilty of fraudulent activity whilst claiming benefits over the last twelve months," the Judge stated over the loud speaker system in the court room.
"You are here by sentenced to six months imprisonment in the body of a work-a-holic who works 60 plus hours a week and has a family to support."
Let me start to explain. The prisons were full. The government needed to find a new way to punish people who were committing crimes. They had different levels of punishment based upon the severity of the crime. However, basically, they would be switched in to someone else's body for a set period of time. The bodies they switched into were usually less attractive and were normally the exact opposite of what they were. So if your crime was petty theft, you would be switched into someone who did a lot of charity work. They had no choice but to live their hosts life. It was all secretive. The public were unaware of what was going on as they had set up a select group of people who were forced to sign the official secrets act. The owners of the borrowed body were switched into anyone they desired and if chosen correctly they could live a temporary life of heaven and bliss. Bodies that were sent to "prison" were actually placed into storage chambers and taken out once a week during visiting hours. It was all part of the ploy of not telling the public.
Alex Lawrenson has been on state benefits for twelve months or more. He had a job previously but he became lazy with it as he worked mainly from home. It wasn't really his fault that he lost his job. This is because his family commitments had to be priority. He was quite fortunate that he had kept his job for so long. It was a really good job paying $4000 a month. But benefits had taken him down to $200 a month. He needed a job and fast, but due to the recession, there was nothing out there. It made more sense for him to stay on benefits than work. However, he had to find a way to make ends meet with Christmas fast approaching he needed money for his kids to get any presents. He had also been issued with a 12 month driving ban. He could no longer get his kids to school. 2012 had become the worst year of his life.
He took a cash in hand job but he was soon found out and that's where he ended up in court and was issued with his sentence. Alex wasn't given any time to protest and was escorted to the chambers where he was strapped into a steel chair. The walk was around 200 yards and should of taken about 2 minutes to get there. Instead it took almost half an hour as Alex was kicking, screaming and shouting all the way. Now he was strapped down, there was no way he could escape and his fortune for the next 6 months was inevitable
Things didn't get any better as his host walked into the room.
"No fucking way, No fucking chance your putting me into that body. No fucking way are you putting me into the body of a ginger freak. I'll change, lock me up please I beg you. I cant be a ginger geek. I mean look at me, I'm a stunner, a scally, I fucking love myself. I've just had a bad year. Ill change, please, I cant be him."

The doctors didn't even blink, the host never said a word as he was strapped in to. The buttons were pressed and Alex was zapped out of his body and into his new temporary body. Stephan was his new name. All of a sudden, Alex had changed from the out of control scally he once was and placed into Stephan. Stephan had 3 kids and also struggled to make ends meet. But he coped and was on the straight and narrow.
Alex was now in full control of his new body and had no choice but to accept what he now was, who he now was. In control but unable to change or deviate from and of Stephan's day to day activities. Stephan worked 60 hours a week, sometimes more as a satellite engineer. His partner did nothing around the house and Stephan's life felt like hell compared to the life Alex previously had. The new Stephan was sent on his way, the doctors knowing that he could not deviate from Stephan's life.
Stephan, now in the body of Alex, on the other hand had only 1 choice to make, where would he spend his next 6 months. He sure as hell didn't want the life of Alex. Alex's mind was already interfering with his own thought processes, he was beginning to feel the rage that Alex had left behind. Stephan chose the body and life of Siva Kaneswaran, one of the top 50 most attractive men of 2012. Stephan's transfer was instant and he was free to enjoy what Siva's body and life had to offer.

A whole week had passed. And Alex's first visitor had arrived. His body was taken out of stasis and awaited occupation by one of the clerks. However there was nobody available to take possession of Alex's body due to sickness and holiday. Things were getting desperate and they were looking for volunteer's.
Alex's bad attitude had put many off and as a last resort I put my hand up and I was taken to the room where Alex's body was sat there so peacefully. It simply looked asleep.
I sat down in the chair next to him and the buttons were pressed. I was instantly zapped into Alex's body. I awoke moments later where I was instructed to dress in convicts clothes.
