COREY HAIM
Dinner at the restaurant was filled with screaming and anger when they found out I tried to escape. The scene we created was not very pleasing. The customers, especially, were disturbed. So, we left. My parents still insisted that I drove them home despite the heated argument we had.
The car ride was silent. Nobody dared to speak up as we were all afraid another argument arises. My phone killed the silence (rip) and shocked everyone.
It was from Nicole.
Nicole...
Right! Crap. I was so caught up trying to win a stupid debate with my parents that I forgot our plans... again.
"Nicole, hi!" I greeted.
"Hey it's uh- not Nicole," a male voice spoke.
"Who the hell are you? Why do you have her phone?"
"Nicole's in critical condition. Bellevue Hospital."
"Hello? Hello?" The phone got cut off.
Without hesitating, I took a sharp u-turn that got everyone surprised. They were shook, asking me questions and screaming in my ears but I couldn't careless. I need to get there as quickly as I could.
I beat all the red lights and to my luck, it was at night so there wasn't any traffic at all.
"Corey. Corey. Corey. The house is the other way round. Corey. Slow down baby. Corey!" Kimberly yelled.
"Kimberly just keep quiet in your seat. I need to rush to the hospital because Nicole's in critical condition. I can't slow down," I yelled at her.
My eyes got watery and my eyes became blurry. I was wiping my tears with my sleeves every second. The tears managed to escape, rolling down my cheeks. I sniffled.
"I-I n-need to see her, okay?" I softened my tone as it hit me that Nicole might be in a critical condition because of me.
"Who's Nicole?" my mother screamed at me angrily.
"Mrs Haim, please calm down. Nicole's.." Kimberly hesitated and sighed, "..Corey just loves her a lot. Day and night the only person he could talk about was her. I stole him away from her."
I was shocked at whatever she just confessed.
"How is that possible? You did not steal him away Kimberly. She stole him from you. You've known him longer than you have!" My dad scoffed.
"No, I'm the snatcher and she's known him longer than I have. She owns the cafe opposite of the office. Please understand."
"Still," my mother said, "I don't like her. You're much better than her Kimberly. You deserve our son, dear. Corey slow down"
My blood started boiling and I could no longer hold it in. Why are my parents like this? Never in my life have they not supported me and my decisions.
"That's enough. The girl's in the hospital, in a critical condition and that's all you guys can think of to say?! Do you guys not have a heart?! You don't even know her!"
The car came to a halt in front of the hospital. I instructed Nicole to take over and send my parents back home as well as herself.
I rushed to the counter to ask the whereabouts of Nicole but.. Nick called me out and led the way.
"Dude why are you even walking? I need to see her. Just tell me where she is!" I pushed him out of the way.
"Listen here," he pushed me against a wall, grabbing me by the collar and said, "because of your lying, promise breaking ass, she became like this. You can't see her right now, so what's the point of running? You can only wait like the rest of us. She's in there getting treated. She's in pain mentally and physically. Don't you go around acting like you fucking care when you don't. I was nice enough to tell you about her condition so you better treat me with respect. Most importantly, treat her with respect. She's not your fucking doll man. You can't play with her one day and then leave. The fuck is wrong with you?"
I was so furious at whatever he just said to me that I threw a punch at him. He released me and fell to the ground. I bent down and grabbed him by the collar then proceeded to punch him again. He managed to dodge it and punched me in the gut. It was now his turn to be on top. He threw a powerful punch at me. I grabbed his legs making him lose his balance.
My mouth tasted of blood, I smelled blood though, I couldn't be bothered with it. I raised my hand again to punch him but was stopped when a hand grabbed my arm. I turned to realise it was Duckie.
"Corey Haim. What are you even doing here?" she asked like she didn't wanted me to be there. I had a feeling she really didn't. I guess nobody does.
"I h-heard Nicole's unwell.. Nick told me about it. Look I'm sorry okay. I didn't mean to leave her like that. I thought she would've gone home and not wait out for me since that's what happened the last time. I had an issue with my parents and I came here as soon as I heard."
Duckie spoke, "If you actually knew her, you would've known that she's naive. I'm not dissing her or anything but it's true. She only sees the good in a person, especially you. She gave you multiple chances even when you broke her heart like a million times. You're not supposed to be here anyway, your wife's waiting for you. So go, get lost. Come back next time when she's well and apologise to her, not me."
"No, it's not like that. I swear Kimberly's not my wife. I appreciate that she's been giving me chances and I fully accept responsibility that she's in there right now because of me. So please, let me see her," I cried out.
"Leave," Duckie instructed
Nick tried to drag me out but I elbowed his nose and he fell to the ground. By the time I was free from Nick, I was getting dragged again.
"Thank you officers. Please take him out. Make sure he doesn't come close please."
"Duckie. Wait!" I tried to struggle out of their grips but they were too strong at that moment. I was way too weak to fight back after fighting.
It was no use.
I'm never gonna see her again.
