I continued to yell my little brother's name, dashing faster, hearing no reply. I would never forgive myself if anything happened to him! All of a sudden, I spotted a figure over a huckleberry bush.

I sighed in relief knowing that figure was Robert.

I yelled frantically "Robert!" sprinting towards him and almost jumping at him with my embrace.

"You can't just run off like that! You almost scared me to death!"

He was bewildered but began to look teary-eyed when I shouted at him.

"I'm sorry, I wanted to cheer you up, so I decided to find some huckleberries..."

I sighed and spoke softer "that was sweet of you, but you can't just run like that without saying a word to me".

Robert nodded and held me tightly. It was getting dark as I looked around the woods, this place was creepy.

Tsagi POV

Atsadi and I roam around the woods, hunting for some deer to take home, but I was shaken when I heard Atsadi point at a large figure. I stared toward the way he was pointing and detected a wagon.

Atsadi was alerted and claimed "white skins have settled here! We must find them and kill them before they find our village".

I surveyed around and nodded, being aware that these greedy white skins often came to kill our innocent people and scavenge our lands.

Atsadi and I jogged around studying the marks left by the white skins on the ground to guide us.

Josephine POV

Suddenly, I heard footsteps and foreign yelling; I panicked, could these be the savages I heard about? I quickly glanced at Robert, who had heard the noises too, his face expressed horror which resembled mine.

I breathe heavily trying my best to stay calm and exclaimed bravely "R-Robert, you have to climb up the tree".

Robert looked at me with agitation and whimpered "n-no, what will you do? Josephine, I'm scared!"

I smiled as my father did, "don't be afraid...God will protect you, climb up the tree and wait there very quietly, until you don't see any Indians. If I don't come back, climb down and go to the horse and ride as fast as you can. Don't stop and follow the compass until you get help or you see father".

Robert started to bawl as held me tightly "You better come back for me"

I forced a smile as I stare at my little brother's wet eyes "you are a brave little boy, I know you can do this, I love you", I kissed his forehead and handed him our father's compass. Robert looked at it and continued to cry then he embraced him tightly before I let him go.

Robert wiped his tears as he smiled happily "I love you too sis."

I watched him climb up the tree carefully, I took a deep breath and threw a rock the opposite direction of the tree and started to run toward it making my best efforts to distract the savages from spotting my little brother.

Tsagi POV

Atsadi yelled "Over there!" as he signaled to a distant figure running off; we started to gallop toward it as fast as the wind, blowing during a dangerous storm.

Astadi pulled over his grand bow and arrow, ready to aim.

I squinted my eyes and yelled "Don't shoot Astadi! It's just a white girl! I pushed him unconsciously causing the arrow to miss the white skin girl.

Josephine POV

My heart accelerated as I continued to sprint ignoring the pain on my feet that ache from the numerous of branches and rocks I stepped on. It was darker in the forest, I could barely see inches away from me but I just prayed that I would escape the Savages.

I noticed a nearby bush and decided to hide behind it, continuously praying that Robert would be safe.

Tsagi POV

Atsadi hissed in anger "Why did you do that?! We almost had her"

I shook my head in dismay "Are you really going to kill a young girl?! We never kill women and children!"

Atsadi sighed in annoyance " She is a white skin, they have raped and killed many of our own! Or have you forgotten?"

"I have not forgotten my brother, but killing innocent women and children will cause the fire to burn higher between our people and the white skins"

"Fine! Then we will capture her and bring into the tribe and ask the Chief what he thinks about your reasoning."

I nodded hesitantly, but agreed with his words, it was better than killing her.

We decide to split up; we could have a better chance at finding her.

I start to prowl slowly tracking her footprints on the ground. Then I heard crying and heavily breathing as a spotted a figure in a nearby bush.

Josephine POV

I stood still as I continued to pray quietly but I couldn't hold my anxiety and my eyes failed me as I began to cry, scared for my life.

Then I saw the savage, I just stood there, petrified, I couldn't move, knowing I was going to be scalped or worse burned alive.
