Tsagi POVI prowled slowly toward the bush trying to be light as a feather so that my prey would not be shaken and that's when I saw her.
Shockingly, she contrasted our women significantly.
Her pale skin was like our white oak trees and hair resembled the roaring sun. Her eyes glistened like the river across our village; she was shockingly beautiful nothing like the warriors in our tribe described.
I've seen her before...
Josephine POV
I stood there petrified as tears continue to stream down my face, t-they have found me.I choked out with all the bravery I had left, "P-please leave me alone, I-I mean no harm please...", hoping this savage could discern my distress.
Tsagi POV
I titled my head, she spoke so differently, but through her anguish, I knew she was terrified.I sighed and decided to keep this quiet. Atsadi would be angered, but how could be so cruel to someone like her?
I smiled at her and started to back away slowly then quickly dashed toward Atsadi.Josephine POV
I stared at him continuing to stand completely still as I tremble in fear, will I even be alive.. he's going to burn me alive isn't he? But, I felt like he was smiling at me or was I imagining things?Suddenly, with a blink of an eye he was gone. I stood here, shocked, did he really let me go?
Tsagi POV
I sprinted towards Atsadi, looking back at the bush but shook my head, I hope she will be okay.Atsadi notice me "Did you find anything yet?
"No.. I didn't see anything yet.. have you?"
Atsadi roared in anger " Damn!! We had her but you decided to protect a white skin" and threw on bow and arrow on the ground in frustration.
I shook my head "We are not warriors, my brother, we are just gatherers, it is not right to kill like the white skins, who killed thousands of buffalo for sport" and I patted his shoulder and looked at him with remorse.
Atsadi started to calm down as he picked up his bow "...fine brother... but if any white skins come to our village...I will not be silenced"
I smiled heartily, praying quietly to the spirits that white skin girl would cause no trouble for us. Atsadi and I start to jogged back to the village making sure to leave no trace of our marks on the ground.
Josephine POV
I trembled vigorously as I surveyed the area I sat, I think I am safe now. I hesitantly stood up my legs felt so weak I could hardly stand from all the commotion that I had witnessed.I squinted gazing around it was really dark now I could barely see my hands.
"Robert!" I exclaimed remembering that he might still be in the tree and sprinted with all my strength toward it hoping he was safe.
I smiled with relief as I spotted a figure on the tree, I whispered "Robert...is that you?"
It was silent for a moment but then a murmur, up from the tree, "J-Josephine?"
I started to cry in relief as I whispered "Y-yes! Come down quietly, I'm right here Robert"
I stared at him as he carefully started to climb down the tree.
"Josephine it is really you! I thought you wouldn't come back for me!!" and quickly embraced me tightly.
I smiled happily as I continue to cry and held him tightly I'm so happy that he's safe.. thank you, God.
"What happened... did you see any savages??" He murmured still suspicious of savages lurking around.
I smiled at his remarks and replied "Hush now we had enough of savages today, I'll tell you tomorrow, but now we have to get out of here before they return with more people"
Robert nodded as we walked carefully back to the wagon, thank God, we hadn't run too far off or we would be completely lost in the forest.
I sighed in relief looking at the horse "It's still here, Robert get the horse" I don't know how we will travel by night but we can't stay here what if those Indians come back for us. The fire was still burning so it was easier to see, I quickly packed a few items like the money, some food, and any valuables. We then cautiously proceed towards the horse.
Robert got on the horse while I calmed it down hoping that it would be able to travel just a bit more. I then got on and sighed again as I squinted, it was pitch black but thankfully my eyes adjusted to the darkness and I could identify figures and shapes.
"Hyah!"
We rode off, down the road. Several thoughts immerse through my mind while traveling, would we find our father, or would at least find a safe place, and would those Indians come back and kill us... although that boy didn't look like a ruthless savage.. like the stories and the drawings I had seen of these savages. I just hope God will not desert us now.
