Clary was still looking at me when Simon called our names again. Our silent conversation was over, and I knew she would follow me wherever I went.
"Clary, Sarah, come on. We gotta go." He said grabbing Clary's hand to keep her close. I took her other hand and shook my head at her.
"Simon, I think Jace can help us." I told him gently, taking his hand.
"What?" he weakly protested.
"Come on." Clary urged as we followed Jace back inside.
"How do we know this Mick Jagger-looking guy is even gonna try..."
"Mundane, we do not have the time." Jace cut him quickly.
"Come on, Simon. Let's go." I asked one more time from the top of the stairs to get inside the church. He looked at me then Clary before reluctantly nodding and following us.
We stood inside but instead of the modern room that we had went through to get out, what we saw inside matched the outside. Simon raised an eyebrow and looked confused as to why we were there. Jace rolled his eyes and took his stele out and drew a rune on his hand. Simon gasped in surprise next to him.
"I know, trust me" Clary tried to calm him down.
"He's like, burning himself" Simon protested and Jace sighed and rolled his eyes clasping his runed hand in Simon's. Next to him, he panicked and tried to shake his hand away claiming that Jace 'wasn't his type' which made me laugh. However, he stopped when the place transformed into a modern looking place with screens everywhere.
"Where are we?" Simon stammered while his eyes widened in surprise 'What the hell? Is there a war going on that I don't know about?"
"There is now." I muttered following Jace while Clary stayed with Simon.
"I think my mother's at the center of it."
"You coming?" Jace called out and Clary nodded at him.
"What is this place? There's a lot of gear in here. What'd they do, rob a tech shop?" Simon had a talk with himself while looking around the room. "So this cold-blooded killer is gonna help us?" he asked motioning to Jace as we stopped at one of the screens.
"He's not a killer. He's protecting us." I corrected with a frown.
"Specifically, you. It's sort of our thing." Jace deadpanned.
"Your thing? You guys have a thing?" Simon motioned between the three of us with a raised eyebrow.
"He means a Shadowhunter thing. That's what they do, protecting humans from demons." Clary explained gently
"Demons, right. That makes perfect sense, 'cause there are demons running all around New York." Simon answered, sarcasm dripping through his voice.
"That is the first correct thing you've said all day." Jace sighed. I could tell he was getting frustrated with Simon already so I grabbed his hand to get his attention on me so that he would stay calm.
On the screen, two police agents were knocking on the church's door, asking for someone to answer. I guess they had found the body.
"Won't they be able to find us?" I asked him to get his attention away from Simon.
"No, our wards will deter them. And the NYPD will do their typical mundie thing for a few hours and then the area will be clear" he explained and I nodded before we were interrupted again.
"What is this?" Alec scoffed, motioning to Simon "Why is there a mundane in the Institute?"
"A Circle member followed him to get to the girls Jace sighed walking towards him.
