Chapter five*
After I told Astrid about my little run-in with Max, she decided to introduce me to her friends who also sat at this table.
"Oh yeah okay so introductions!" she said putting down her juice box.
"This is Maureen" Astrid points to a girl sitting beside her who has headphones on. Her fiery red hair matching the color of her nail polish. I nod as I look to the next person a guy with black hair staring intently at me.
"That's Daniel" he gives me a small smile going back to his book.
"Everyone this is Emily!" Astrid announces to the two other people sitting at this table.
The whole cafeteria goes quiet as another person walks in. I turn my head to see what all the commotion is.
I groan when I see a very pissed off Courtney walking towards me. "Brace yourself " I whispered to Astrid as Courtney stops at the end of our table.
Her angry sneer covering most of her perfect face. "You better watch yourself, new girl. Your life is ruined here at Evergreen. You're going to wish you never left whatever small ass town you came from"
I scoffed "please, I came from Miami. And anywhere is better than here to be honest" I finish and a lot of hollowing and ooh's erupted from the crowd that has gathered around our table.
Maureen is sending victory smiles my way while Daniel just looks scared for his life hiding his face behind his book.
"Why you--" she gets pulled away before she could finish her sentence.
"Courtney, she's not worth it. Save your strength for later" a tiny blond says, pulling Courtney away.
When the crowd realizes that the show is over they all disperse going back to their tables.
I open my lunch box and my face lights up, I pull out a note from my dad.
I hope you have a great first-day honey. I know how hard it was for you to move here, so I got you a little welcome home gift that will be waiting for you.
Love Dad.
I wonder what it could be, I ponder over this question for the rest of lunch while chomping down on a good piece of cheese pizza.

After lunch, I walk to my bio class making sure I don't get lost this time. I make it there with 2 minutes to spare and virtually give myself a high five.
I pick a station and sit at it watching as kids file in not wanting to be late.
"Okay class, we're going to start today off by finding a lab partner" Our teacher Miss Oliver addresses the class.
I look around and notice everyone has found their lab partner. New girl struggles am I right?
I sigh sitting back down on my stool, I look up when I here the door open.
Max walks in panting like he just finished running a marathon, but his hair still looks extremely perfect.
"Ah, Mr. Coleman is it? You're late," Miss Oliver says, "detention after school."
Max rolls his eyes.
"Find yourself a station and a lab partner. Actually, the only person without a lab partner is Miss Atkins" she points in my direction.
Max looks at me a slow grin forming on his lips. He struts over slamming his books and binders down on the table.
Why me!
"Hey you again, new girl," he says sarcastically.
"Yep, that's me!" I exclaim popping the 'p'. "You're um Max?"
"That's my name don't wear it out" he crosses his arms over his chest.
"You made my girlfriend quite mad today" I gape looking over at him.
I laughed "your girlfriend is Courtney, oh my, that's really low" I wipe non-existent tears from the corners of my eyes.
He glares at me. "No Kimberley, not Courtney, " he says, disgust evident in his voice.
"That must suck, though, to have Kimberley as your girlfriend like, is she even remotely nice?" I ask, ignoring the teacher completely as she explains stuff up front.
"She's good in bed, that's all that really matters..." he trails off a smirk playing on his lips.
"You disgusting" I groan covering my ears to keep out his nasty comments.
"And you're hot" he replies, the heat rises to my cheeks as I stare down at my lap not able to meet his eyes.
"Like hot in a geeky way"
"God just shut up!" I whisper, pretending to listen to the teacher. "I'm trying to learn something"
"Am I not a good enough teacher for you?" He teases coming way to close to my ear.
I turn to him and glare our faces only inches from each other. His eyes dart down to my lips. Butterflies start in my stomach as I imagine kissing him.
Ew, stop your sexual mind, Emily!
"I think I want a different lab partner, your just too annoying" I pull away from his face trying to listen as Miss Oliver explains atoms to the rest of the class.
"Nah, you think I'm hot. Most girls do" he says, his gaze piercing the back of my skull.
"You're so egotistical." I groan.
Max laughs beside me finally shutting up, knowing that he won this argument and made me fall.
Ringgg!
The bell rings and I grab my already packed backpack and slung it over my shoulder already half way to the door.
"No goodbyes?" Max asks, keeping pace with me.
"I don't really feel like talking to your egotistical ass" I spit walking faster.
He laughs "Oh so you were checking out my ass then?"
"Oh my god, grow up!" I shout walking away.
"Yeah I'll see you in detention then!" He calls out after me.
Shit!
