Chapter 1 ✯ New News
“England?” I let the words breathlessly escape past my lips; I gripped the chair tighter than necessary, my nails digging into the leather as I stared absentmindedly at the monitor in front of me.
“I-I know this is a big change but—“
“No!” I shouted, standing up, shoving the chair so far back it slammed against the boring white wall, “This is not a choice for you to make Thomas! You can’t send me across the ocean and no even send a warning!” my voice rose with every word, “You don’t know what could happen,” my voice abruptly dropped into a whisper.
“Cat! You have to hear us out!” the man in the suit, Thomas, one of my best and closest friends, tried to calm my swift temper down with soft words.
I reached out for the swiveled chair and sat back down, putting my feet onto the seat and tugging my legs to my chest with an exaggerated sigh, I complied, using it as a hint to move on with his plans of actions.
He let out an audible gulp, looking to his clasped hands, “Well, um, you are 18 now Catherin and now done with school. Technically, you are allowed to leave the foster home, no longer in need of our assistance.” He paused to see if I caught on to whatever he was trying to hint at.
I frowned at my freckled knees, “Continue.”
“So as my idea, we thought it a good idea to send you to a new area, a place where no one knows who--” he took a breath and whispered in a barely audible voice, “--or what—you are. It will be better for you and everyone.” He smiled and stood out o his seat, coming over and putting his hands on my shoulders, “No parents for you to worry about or other kids running around.”
I smirked, turning around to face him, “I guess that does sound nice, no one to annoy me, but what about the people I do like?” I asked.
“Well, they will miss you, but if it’s for your greater good, I believe they would understand,” he spoke in a thoughtful tone.
“I guess,” I replied, turning back to my spot on my knees, slowly growing a numb feeling. I was not quite sure how to react; happy, sad, angry, scared? I had never left the state, let alone to move to a different country, I had been scared to travel because I didn’t know how she would react to it. She was not to keen to change, she did not even want me to change town’s to go to a new set of foster parents after she had scared the old ones. Messing with her is not a very smart decision.
“You don’t know how she’ll take it though,” I thought aloud.
“I’m sure if you just don’t think about it, you’ll be fine,” Tom tried to reason, not really helping to clear my doubts.
I raked my fingers through my reddish hair, “I guess I have no choice but to agree no do I?” I let out a hollow chuckle, “When do I leave?” I turned back to him.
“ASAP!” he already had a phone to his ear, “Now shoo and go get everything packed,” he ruffled my hair with a smile.
I shut off the computer I was at and left the room, I was about to turn the corner to head towards the stairs but a question pooped up into my brain. I ran back, “What about a job?” I stated loudly so he could hear me over the phone.
“Got it covered!” he waved me off before returning to the phone. I huffed and I crinkled my nose before turning around to head to my room.

I sat on the naked bed, tapping my foot on the ground with whatever else I need to get. All of my stuff was mostly packed because I had just gotten back from a foster family, just like the others; they sent me back like I was a broken doll because I technically was. I had quite a few parents over the course of a few years, I either reeked complete havoc on the family or an “accident” happened and I was sent back, the ladder was less common but it did happen.
