Max sniffed the ground as he walked on the concrete. He and Mike had started the search for Gidget 6 hours ago. They had both gone their separate ways that way they could cover more ground than if they were searching the city of New York for Gidget together.
They had split up at the dog park. Mike went left as Max kept going straight. With 6 hours into their search, Max had searched everywhere for his white Pomeranian, but she was nowhere to be found. Not to mention that it was starting to get dark, and he had to get back to Duke before Katie got home.
Sighing, Max stopped at a curb and sat down, his ears drooping. This search for his Gidget was going nowhere. Nowhere at all. He had to give up the search. No, he was not giving up the search completely, he was just giving up the search for today. What else could he do?
The better question he should be asking himself is what had he done? He had done nothing to prevent this whole arranged breeding with Ivy, who he didn't even like.
Getting up, he decided to just head home, figuring he'd better get a good night's sleep so he wouldn't be too exhausted to look for his girl in the morning.
As he walked home, Max cursed himself silently for what he had done to Gidget.
~~~
When Max came in through the window, Duke looked at him smiling, but quickly frowned as he saw Max's ears and tail drooping.
"I'm guessing you didn't find her, huh?" Duke asked, slowly making his way to his bed.
The terrier shook his head, whimpering as he made his way to his own bed which was right next to Duke's. "We're continuing the search tomorrow..."
Duke nodded and sighed, looking at his brother. "We'll help you and Mike tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay, whatever.."
"Max," Duke started. "We'll find her, don't worry."
A minute passed, and then Max suddenly snapped.
"How can you tell me not to worry? She's my girlfriend!"
Duke gulped and stayed quiet for a minute, trying to collect his thoughts so he wouldn't upset the terrier more than he already had.
"Sorry..."
Huffing, Max looked away from Duke and laid his head down, his eyes taking a minute to close, but they finally did. Before he fell asleep, Gidget crossed his mind.
"Don't worry Gidget," he started, yawning as his body started shutting down for the night. "I'll find you... and make sure you never go through this again..."
