"This is exactly what you need!!"
"Father, a wife??!! You have completely lost your mind."
The King laughed and wiped a tear from his eye. "I don't know why you are so upset about the thought of getting married to Princess..."
"Look father, I love you and care about you deeply, and you do the same for me. But, I cannot handle a woman by my side. Don't you see how greedy and clingy they are. Every single princess I've met is like that, and the decent ones have already found someone else."
"That's not true. You are getting married and that's it. It will make you stronger and feel loved even after we're gone. You know I'm growing old by each and every day. Your mother is still quite young, but you need someone there to help you run this kingdom by your side. You are king now!!" The King starts coughing uncontrollably, gasping for air.
"Father?!" Jack runs toward his sick father and immediately calls a guard to fetch Doctor Eisenhald. He asks a maid outside his father's office to quickly get a glass of water. The King's cough gradually seizes but it's clear he's sick.
"Look son, I might not feel any better for the days to come, but just know that I care about you and your future. Please do me one last favor and marry that special worthy princess. If you want, it can just be a long engagement. A year, perhaps?"
He couldn't stand seeing his father like this. If he wanted to make him proud, he had better do it now. And anyways, a year-long engagement wouldn't be so bad. If he got along with his partner just fine and even loved her, he could marry then and not rush into it. "Okay."
"What?" His father replies, completely baffled by his response.
"I said okay. I'll get engaged if it makes you and mother happy."
The King's eyes sparkled. "This is fantastic! I'll be sure to tell your mother. She'll be proud of you!" He started happily clapping, completely forgetting about his sickness.
"On one condition: I want to hold a ball for everyone and find the lucky woman who gets to marry me."
His father's mouth dropped open. "What? No!! You will marry a princess, Jack. Only a princess. And I will do the honor of introducing you to all 15 of them."
"No I'm choosing who I want to marry. Isn't that what you did and ended up marrying mother. Royal blood or not, I'm deciding," Jack stated dryly.
His father soon gave in and allowed it. "I want the ball to be set for next month. And, father, please get some rest." With that, he was out of the king's study room.

I'm sorry! It's almost been a year since I posted a new chapter. Please keep a lookout. It'll be here sometime this week :D ! (I also should've mentioned in the description/title that I was putting this book on hold, but now I'm finally back. My mistake!)
