Jake's POV
The next day, I wake up on the couch in the hospital room. I slept here last night with Brooklynn near my side and Kaitlynn in the bed. Today, I am going to leave when my mom gets here to go back to the apartment and clean up the bathroom just in case Kaitlynn wakes up earlier and gets to go home. Yes, I'm thinking positive.
Brooklynn woke up plenty of times through the night and she needed her mom, but her mom couldn't be there for her. So she was left with her dad who doesn't have boobs and can't give her milk. Thankfully, the staff here has some formula that will work until Kaitlynn wakes up, hopefully.
The doctors also came in here a lot to check up on both Brooklynn and Kaitlynn, mainly Kaitlynn.
I can't believe that I am a dad. My daughter is sleeping right next to me, healthy as can be. If only my wife would wake up and be healthy, then we would have our family.
My mom walks in the room and breaks my thoughts with a good morning.
"Good morning mom." I respond to her, letting her hug me.
"This baby is so adorable." She says and I laugh.
"Yeah, I love her so much already. She also reminds me a lot of Kaitlynn."
"She sleeps like her."
"Cause that's not creepy. How do you know how my wife sleeps?" I say laughing and she just rolls her eyes.
"She's sleeping right there dear." She says and I smile. I love teasing my mom.
"Okay, I'm gonna go back to the apartment. You okay with staying here?"
"Yes dear. I'll alert you immediately if something happens."
"Thank you. See you soon."
"Okay. Be safe."
I nod and grab my keys before heading out of the hospital room and to the elevator. I press the button and wait for it to open. Once it does, the whole football team steps out.
"Oh hey Jake, we were just coming to see you." Tucker, one of my teammates, says when he sees me. They have balloons and stuffed animals all in their arms.
"Oh that's sweet. I was just about to head back to the apartment, but I can wait. Come on and see Brooklynn." I tell them, turning back around.
"How is Kaitlynn?" Joe asks.
"Still the same. She's still in the coma but the doctors say her body is doing pretty good, so that's good I guess."
"And how are you?" Brady says.
"I'm a dad without his wife to help him. I don't really know. All I do know is that I have a gorgeous daughter in there and my beautiful bride is in a coma and I don't know if she's going to wake up."
"This must be so hard for you. Don't worry, Kaitlynn is a trooper." Nate says and I nod.
"I know, she's strong. That's one of the thousands of reasons I fell in love with her."
They all smile and we walk into the hospital room.
"Oh you're back already?" My mom says, looking up from her book.
"Yeah, I ran into the team when I was about to get on the elevator. I'll just go later." I tell her, partly because I'm also stalling. She nods.
"Okay, well I'm gonna head back home. Call me when they leave and I'll come back."
"Alright. Be safe."
"You too." She says, getting up and giving me a hug before walking out.
"You guys can just put that stuff over in the corner or wherever you would like to put it around the room." I tell them, referring to the stuffed animals and balloons.
