Flashback
Three years ago I was with my mother El and my father Sam in our families cabin in Glenwood, Washington. It was a warm summer afternoon and I was playing near the woods behind our cabin. I was three years old at the time. I was outside alone, playing in the grass when I saw out of the corner of my eye, a pink ball of light on the edge of the woods. I rose to my feet to touch the ball of light. As I got closer it started moving farther into the woods. I quickly followed after it stumbling into the woods. I followed it for what seems like forever until I realized the sun was setting. For a brief second I looked away from the ball of light, it disappeared and I was left alone in the woods. It was getting dark and I had no idea which direction I came from. In the distance through my tear filled eyes, I saw an enormous willow tree that looked like it was hundreds of years old near a small pond. I quickly ran to the willow tree and wept at the base of the tree. Minutes turned into hours and it was complete darkness around me. In between my whimpering, I heard faint whispering that seemed to be coming from the willow tree. I looked up and a face appeared on the trunk of the willow tree.
"What's the matter dear?" Says the willow tree.
" I'm lost and I don't know how to get home." I said in a soft sob.
The willow tree responded " How did you manage to find us deep in the woods little one?" I looked at her puzzled asking, "whose us?" As the willow tree calls out to the forest more balls of light appear and turn into fairies coming out of the woods surrounding the small pond.
I gasp in wonderment at the small creatures around me. Dozens surround me but one comes up and sits on my knees that are pulled up to my chest. I realize she was the ball of light I followed into the woods.
I asked the fairy " Why did you lead me here?"
All I hear coming from the fairies lips is such a small whisper that can't be heard from any human ear.
The willow tree interrupted the fairies faint whisper " You can't hear the fairies voices yet my dear, but you will soon."
I look at the willow tree confused while she says to me " Get some rest on the base on my tree baby girl and we will soon explain everything."
My eye lids start to grow heavy while the fairies weave me a bed out of grass and leaves from the forest floor. I slowly start to drift off to sleep while the willow tree sung me a lullaby in a soothing tone. Before sleep over took me I heard the willow tree whisper to me, " You can call me Mama Willow my dear".
