"You'll be okay, my love. I swear it." My mom's beautiful voice tells me as my subconscious reminisces on the last conversation I had with my mom before she left me. Her long brown hair curling around her face, her eyes a light hazel that were sparkling with unshed tears. And her voice, soft and soothing, like one of a women who knows that there's no use in fighting what is to come. I nod my head, accepting anything that comes out of her mouth as a sole truth.
Liam picks me up from the back seat of the car, and carries me bridal style into the house, he figured out how to open the garage door by himself and parked the car inside. As I wrap my arms around his neck and bury my face under his jaw, he tightens his arms around me. I feel so small and protected with him tightly holding on to me like this. We walk past the kitchen and into the living room, with cool blue and gray tones that give it such a peaceful feel to the room. He sits down on the big teal colored couch, with me still cradled in his strong arms. And I feel my hot tears running down my face, not for Rose, but for my mom, and my dad who will never be able to love again. "This living room was all her, her favorite colors and her peacefulness are all in here. I remember coming home from school and finding her on this couch just reading or sketching something. Her and dad would sit here for hours, not saying anything but him on his computer on his work and her with her books. Before she got really bad, she would sit here and read, but then when she needed to really rest, we convinced her to rest in her room instead. She loved this couch, she said it reminded her of the ocean where she and dad had their honeymoon." I almost whisper the last part, and the tears just don't stop. Liam sighs, understanding flowing out of his being. "Baby, please don't cry, I don't know what to do to help you." Liam's voice pleading and soothing me at the same time. "I'm just so mad! Why did she have to go so soon! I miss her so much, Liam. I want her to meet you and love you like I do. I know she would've loved you, she would've treated you like her son." And I smile and I remember her talking about how she would test any boy I would bring home to make sure they were good for me. "How do you know she would've liked me?" his curiosity spiking, as his hand rubs warmth into my back. "You're eyes are kind and she would say that you could see a persons soul through their eyes, and your smile is just so bright. I don't know but I have this feeling that she would've loved you." And as I bring my face out of the crook of his neck, I look up and see his smile. "She sounds like a wonderful women and I would've loved to meet her. And I'm glad she would've approved of me" I cup Liam's face between my hands and look him straight in the eyes, "Thank you for defending me today." I say as I lean in and kiss him softly on his lips. "I would never allow anyone to hurt you in any way, and I'm sorry that Rose acted that way today. But I think I made it clear that we're done and that you're my girlfriend" he says as he leans his head against mine and locks his honey brown eyes to mine. A shy smile tugs at his lips, and I give him a quick kiss on the edge of his mouth. "Lets go get some food! I'm starving!" I say as I jump of the couch and lead him towards the kitchen.
All brown and white accents decorate the kitchen that is sprinkled with stainless steel appliances, giving the room a modern feel. "The fridge is always filled with food, so I'm sure there's something we can heat up." I say as I walk towards the double door fridge. Sure enough there's tons of food that's ready to eat, but we opt for some hot pockets, as we wait for them to heat up, we also find some cokes that are already chilled. As we sit in the living room eating and watching some TV, I hear a car pull into the garage. "I think my dad is home..." I say as I get up and walk towards the garage door. And sure enough, my dad is getting out of his white Range Rover, and I cant help but run to him and hug him. "Oh how I've missed you, how are you?" he asks as his arms tighten around my shoulders and he kisses the top of my head. What can I say? I'm a daddy's girl. "I missed you too dad, everything's been fine. How was your trip?" I ask, trying to hide the fact that this week has been a best and worst week. "We figured out how to buy the company from Germany that I was talking about last week, the owner just wanted us to not resale it in pieces, but to upgrade the system and make it into a greater company. He wanted to save all the work he put into it." He gets his suitcase from the back seat and makes his way into the house, as we enter we find Liam awkwardly standing in front of the kitchen island, "Um.. Dad this is Liam, my boyfriend." I say as I look up to my dad blue eyes, trying to gauge is reaction. "Hello Mr. Barcelona. I'm Liam Payne, its nice to finally meet you, Juliet has told me a lot about you." And I suddenly feel bad for Liam, for being put into this awkward moment with no warning. "Hello Liam, nice to meet you, I can't say Juliet has told me much or anything about you." My dad's clipped tone tells me he is not pleased by the news that I now have a boyfriend who he's never heard of.
After my dad hurriedly excuses himself to his room, Liam and I stand in the kitchen just staring at each other. "Well that went well...?" Liam sounds worried and it makes me smile that he cares what my Dad will think of our relationship. "He'll like you just like I do." I say, a silent promise to him as we hug. "I hope so." He says as he buries his nose in my hair. "I think you need a ride home...?" I say as we detach ourselves form each other. "Ha, yeah I do."
As I drive up to Liam's house, him sitting in the passenger seat for a change, he's on his phone, so concentrated. His brow occasionally creasing in focus as he reads, and occasionally types something into his iPhone. "We're here, Li." And his head snaps up when he hears me say the nickname, his eyes showing surprise and a storm of memories surface. "That was my mom's nickname for me since I can remember. She said that it made it easy for her to get my attention. My dad left her when she was pregnant with me, his name is on my birth certificate but I don't know him. He doesn't give me a hug when he comes home like your dad does, Jules. She was all alone, she used to say that it was just her and I against the world." And his chin trembles as his golden eyes sparkle with sadness for his mother and all that she suffered, I lean over to hold his hands. "Liam, she was just as strong and beautiful as you, I'm sure of that. And she would be so proud of the man you've grown up to be. And both of our mothers are now guiding us, from wherever they are. They're still protecting us." I say as I kiss his cheek. His eyes close as he tries to push the pain away, and he gives me the strongest hug yet. "I love you so much Juliet, you and your big blue eyes that I could get lost in. All of you. And I swear that I will never allow anyone to hurt you in any way. I swear." He says, with a promise sealed in every word. "I know Li. As will I." and his shy smiles comes out to play as I brush my hand into his hair and pull his face towards me and kiss him with all that I am.
My god, how I love this boy. And he's all mine. Wow.
