I belted out the last note of our encore and stood back with a grin to bask in the cheers and screams of our loyal fans.  I was experiencing the intense burst of adrenaline and joy that being on stage always gave me, this was a better high than drugs had ever given me.  I felt euphoric, I felt alive and I felt like I was queen of the world.

Trouble is, this high doesn’t last long, from the moment I walk off that brightly lit stage I am hit by reality like a ton of shit.  My heart sinks as I am ushered back to my dressing room to get ready for the after party.

“Well hey honey” Joan smirked from the couch, racking up fat lines of white powder on the glass coffee table.

“Hey J” I sighed slumping into my chair and kicking off my heeled boots. “Jesus, my feet are fucking killing me” I moaned.

“Quit moaning” Joan chuckled “Care to delve?” she asked offering me a rolled up note.

I stared at her incredulously.

“What the hell! Why would you even ask, you know I don’t do that shit anymore and you shouldn’t either” I fumed, how dare she offer drugs to me so casually when she knows how much I struggled getting off that poison.

“Suit yourself” she shrugged.

Ever since I had gone to rehab and come out a reformed person last year, Joan didn’t seem like the best friend I had considered her to be.  She couldn’t understand that although I love to party as much as the next person I didn’t need illegal highs to enjoy my night anymore.

I rolled my eyes and turned back to my mirror, re-touching my hair and make up, I sat back and surveyed myself critically when I was done.

My long naturally black hair was messily cascading down past my shoulders framing my face, my heavily applied stage make up consisted of smoky black eye shadow, fake eyelashes and red lipstick.  Before you jump to conclusions no, I am most definitely not an emo.  I am a good old fashioned rock chick with a feminine edge.

“do you think I should change for the party?” I asked standing up.

I was wearing shiny black leather hot pants so short they could be underwear with black suspenders and a red low cut top.  Extreme? Maybe.  Rockstar? Definitely.  Of course I don’t always dress like this, believe it or not I am a relatively normal person under all the rock and roll.

“No you look marvelous darling” Joan trilled emphasising her British accent, however much she might piss me off nowadays, she does still make me laugh.

I quickly chucked my thigh high boots back on grabbing my high as a kite friend off the couch, just as I was about to head out the door my manager Brian burst in.  I caught a glimpse of the crowd of paparazzi waiting to harass us .before the door snapped shut
