Kirstin’s POV
(Oh yeah, bit of a change cause I like to spice it up :) )I was so happy I got a date with Kevin, I could decide what to wear and put my expensive makeup on and it was all just so exciting.
Yet, there was something tingling in the back of my mind… something - or someone - that I kept thinking about I just couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
I pushed my thoughts aside and walked up to my room. I went to my closet and threw it open rather dramatically. I scrunched up my nose, so many things to do, so little time to do them.
After a lot of thinking, I decided on a dark blue blouse with black pants and a pair of almost the exact same shade of blue high heel shoes. I decided I looked a bit boring, so I put slipped my dark blue and white watch over my wrist, put my blue ring with a flower on it on my right ring finger and put on the silver necklace that mom got me when I was 12. I put some light makeup on, grabbed my simple black handbag and I was ready to go, since I had showered a while before.
I nervously made my way down the stairs, tripping and almost falling flat on my face when I had almost reached the bottom.
“Mom!” I called out, since I wasn’t sure which room she was currently in.
“Yes honey?” I heard her holler from what I think was the kitchen. I walked into the kitchen and found her chopping cucumbers and putting them in a large salad bowl.
“So umm, you know I have a date tonight, right?” I said and winced, bracing myself for the answer.
My mom stopped what she was doing and looked up at me. Slowly, like a shadow casting itself over the earth, a huge grin spread across her face and she squealed an ear piercing screech that you could probably hear in Australia.
“Oh honey, I am so happy for you! You are getting yourself out there and going on dates and look how pretty you look!” With that she ran over and squeezed the life out of me in a bone crushing hug. I cringed. This was the exact reaction I was afraid of.
“Gee thanks, mom.” I said, just slightly amused.
“Let me get my camera!” She said loudly, in my ear I might add, and ran off down the hall clapping her hands and screeching all the way.
I must admit, I was slightly nervous.
My mom hadn’t even come back yet when the doorbell rang, and my heart skipped a beat. But still, as I made my way to the door, the thing was still nagging at the back of my mind. I wished I could have known what it was, instead I put a smile on my face and opened the door.
I was met with Kevin’s smiling face, holding a bouquet of flowers in his hands.
“Hi!” I greeted enthusiastically.
“hel..”
“HELLO! What’s YOUR name, honey? Oh I love your outfit so much! Let me take a picture of the two of you together!” My mom interrupted him before he could even greet me.
I rolled my eyes, but Kevin seemed to enjoy the attention and he grinned and walked into the house, dragging me behind him to take the picture together.

When all the photos were taken and my mom had stopped crying of happiness, we sat in the car in a kind of comfortable but kind of awkward silence, until, thankfully, Kevin broke it.
“So, when did you move here?” He asked, trying to make casual small talk.
“About a month ago. I hated my old school. I got bullied there so I’m glad I found someone like Mitchell here, but I get bullied here too so it doesn’t really matter.” I said the last part so quietly, I'm pretty sure only I was the only one who heard it, therefore I wasn’t surprised at Kevin’s answer.
"That’s nice…” He said, distractedly.
“Where do you go to university?” I asked, genuinely curious , as Mitch had told me a great deal about how brainy Kevin was.
“I go to Yale. I am starting my second year there in a week,” Kevin said, rather proudly. I nodded.
We parked at the restaurant and got out of the car, Kevin opening the door for me as I stepped out. The restaurant was nice, cozy and candlelit. A waitress walked up to us, smiling, “can I help you?” She asked kindly.
“I have a reservation for Olusola,” Kevin said.
“Right this way,” The waiter said, and ushered us to a small table with two seats right by the window.
Kevin and I decided what to order and made light small talk after the order had been taken to the kitchen.
All the while, the thing kept pushing at the back of my mind, practically screaming to get out.
We ate and talked some more, then dessert, then coffee, then we left.
You could say it was a pretty traditional date, but I just didn’t feel any chemistry between us. After we finished and did the little dance with the bill, where we have a kindhearted argument about who pays, {Kevin ended up paying} we left the restaurant and took a walk in the city. It would be a romantic spot but I just didn’t quite feel right, and the certain thing at the back of my mind was itching to get out, not letting me think straight and making me focus on that instead of my date.
We walked back to the car and Kevin drove toward my house. Once we were at my front door he lent against it, coming closer.
Suddenly the thing I was wondering about all night came rushing out, flooding through me and I felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my chest as realization tingled through my body from head to toe.
