Chapter 6

I decided to go for a walk to  clear my mind.

Too much was going on.

I had said goodbye to Kirstie after school ended, she had offered to walk me home but I had refused.

I just needed some time alone. I had already dropped my bag off at home, and was now walking in the suburbs, looking at houses and trees.

Suddenly I heard something. A voice. It sounded oddly familiar. It was yelling loud swearwords.

I heard the soft sound of piano notes, and then a voice that I would never forget in my life:

" I broke something I'll never get, I'll never get back
Brought me to my knees
A head like steel and a soul of gold
And a heart that's made of glass
But mines cracked"

It was the most beautiful voice I'd ever heard. I stood there, frozen to the spot, silently wishing the voice would continue. But it didn't.

"Damn it! I'll never get it right!"

I heard the person say loudly. I cringed.

It was Scott.

But I couldn't move. I wanted.. No... Needed him to sing more.

I slowly inched closer, one tiny step at a time, until I was directly outside the open window.

I smiled widely at the thought of his voice. His elegant, long fingers started to make their way across the piano.

He looked like he was thoroughly enjoying himself, despite his rude words just seconds before.

He looked up at his notes, then out at the window, and that's when he froze, fingers hovering above the keys, his face getting redder by the second and his eyes growing wide.

I couldn't move.
I was petrified. His facial expression slowly turned into a deep frown and he stood up, nocking his notes off as they gently fluttered to the ground around him.

He let out a low growl.
"GO AWAY!" He screamed.
"I never want to see you again!"

He was almost in tears as he came closer and closer to the window. I nodded and quickly turned in the other direction and started running.

I didn't know where I was going but I knew that if I stayed there any longer... It wouldn't be pretty.

I ran about two blocks before I stopped, panting. I looked around...
was I lost?
No!
I was standing on Kirstie's street!

I started walking quickly, counting the numbers....22...23....24.

I walked up the drive way and knocked on the door.

A middle aged lady answered the door.
"Hello dear! I'm assuming you're here to see Kirstie!" she said with a kind smile.
"I'm Angelica! And you are?" "Mitch Grassi. Kirstie's.... Friend." I answered with a shy smile. "Lovely! Well I'll send her down. Please come in!"
I followed her in and sat down on a dark red loveseat while she went halfway up the stairs. "Kirstie! You have a friend here to see you!"
Angelica called up.
"Thanks mom! Send him up!"
I heard her holler in response.

Angelica smiled at me and gestured up the stairs.
"Go ahead!"

I walked up the stairs, smiling wearily at Kirstie, who was standing at the top, grinning from ear to ear.

She beckoned me into her room and opened the door.

Almost everything was in boxes, the exceptions being a small table with a blue reading lamp, and a bed with a white pillow and a blue, velvet blanket.

All of her clothes were in piles and all of her school books were stacked neatly against the wall.

She sat down rather reluctantly and looked up at me with a curious smile.

"Sorry that there isn't really anywhere to sit or anything. We have been doing lots of unpacking and you know we get like, loads of homework every day so it's really busy."

I nodded absentmindedly and she looked at me with a curious expression.
"You don't seem yourself. What are you thinking about?"

I had to think for a second whether I should tell her or not. I decided on telling her and I took a deep breath.

"I saw Scott today... But like, after school." I paused as Kirstie gasped, standing up and pulling me from the doorway onto her bed.

We sat facing each other, crossed legged.

I continued:
"I saw him in his house. He was playing the piano and singing. And it just.... It sounded so beautiful! Something about... Something being cracked or... I don't remember."

She looked at me, grinning as she processed what I  just said.

"Did you know it was his house?" she asked, a smirk beginning to form on her face.
"No no no no no! I just had to go on a walk to clear my mind."

"Oh okay," she Kirstie said, sounding almost disappointed, the smirk I had seen just seconds before was now gone.

"Anyway," I said, continuing, "I got out of there because he saw me and yelled at me. But I should probably leave now cause I have lots of homework and I have to feed Wyatt."
"Okay, have fun!" Kirstie said with a wink, and she walked me down the stairs and out the door, giving me a hug and watching me walk down her driveway.

I was walking home, listening to the birds chattering and quietly humming the tune to a song I had heard on the radio, when I heard a strangely familiar voice.

I cautiously turned around and saw Avi and Scott walking towards me, fists clenched and teeth showing.

They looked almost like a couple of hungry wolves.

"Oh you are so gonna get it!" Scott said loudly, and I started to run.

Hello everyone! I am very sorry that I haven't updated in like forever. It has been super busy but I bet you don't like this book anyway, like literally two people read it so.... Anyway here is a little bit longer chapter for your enjoyment. Kind of a filler but... Meh... Love you all somaj!!!!
