It was one a.m. when I woke up. During dinner last night Nick and I agreed to leave as soon as we could. Ms. Fairchild provided us with 75 dollars each and three bottles of water. I got dressed in black jeans, long-sleeved black shirt, and my brown combat boots. I pulled my hair in a loose ponytail and packed my bag. In my bag is the three bottles of water, a few granola bars, my long knife, and my automatic pistol. I strapped my favorite knife to my upper arm and grabbed my black hoodie. I walked out my room and knocked on my brother's door. He answered and I noticed he was wearing a similar outfit as me.
He had his book-bag slung over one shoulder and asked, "Ready?"
"As ready as I'll ever be," I say sighing. We leave silently and catch a train from Frankfort, Kentucky to Springfield, Illinois. As soon as i get on the train I black out.
When I wake up we are in Granite City, Illinois and I notice that Nick is asleep next to me. Since I am in the window seat I stare at all the trees until Nick starts to stir.
"Hey," he said his voice still full of sleep.
"Hey," I say wondering what he's going to say next.
"Where are we?" He asked questioned.
I replied with," two hours from Springfield." Nick looked around then frowned.
"Do you remember when you stole my LEGOs and mom had to search your room?"

"Yeah. I hid them under mom's bed so that she thought that you put them there. It was really funny watching you argue with her." I recalled.
"No it wasn't. It took ten minutes to convince her!" That's what we did for the two hours, remembered and talked about things that we did when we were younger. Before our parents died.
Two hours later Nick and I get off the train and head directly to our target. An abandoned three-story house. Nick pulled out his flashlight and we banged down the door. I start up the stairs to the second floor and notice that the floor is different. I tell Nick and he comes up. On the first floor the floor is dirty and cracked, but on the second floor it is clean like someone just mopped. In fact I can still sense the lingering smell of bleach.
"There's no one here. I must have made a mistake," my brother states.
"No. Do you smell that? Someone was here not to long ago. Something," I say as I start to look around the room, knife in hand. I find a ledge in the smooth floor and use it as a handle to slide the floor open. I peek inside to see nothing. When I think that there is nothing in the floor I look again and see two red eyes staring at me.
"Nick!" I scream before the Cat jumps out of his hiding spot. "Don't let him get away!" Nick quickly uses a rope to trip the Cat and tie him up. We lift him into a chair and he starts rhyming.
"Eyes full of hate, wondering why you had to wait?" he rhymes. I put my knife to its throat and threaten it.

"Why'd you kill my parents?!" I press the knife closer and a small trickle of blood flows down its throat.
"Woah, Sam, what are you doing? The plan was the capture it, not kill it. Just put the knife down, I've already called the police." Nick coaches me, but I don't listen. I'm too angry to listen to anybody.
"Why did you kill them?" I say through gritted teeth.
"Parents that you loved so much, now you only long to touch," It teases. I'm about to kill it when Nick sneaks around me and pulls me back, just in time before I impale the worthless creature.
"What were you thinking?" Nick says out of breath.
"I have waited so long to find this thing and now that we found it ... I just snapped," I reply with shaky breaths.
"Well, the police should be here any minute now and then we're done. No more looking or hunting," Nick says with a smile.
"I like that," I say smiling back.
