My eyes went wider than the moon. What the hell had just happened?! First I wake up in an abandoned classroom all by myself, find out that all my other classmates have been waiting on me, and then a black-and-white cat pops out of a podium.
"Yeah, okay," I muttered, my eye twitching slightly. "This makes sense."
Beside me, the girl who had introduced herself as Sayaka suddenly stiffened. "Kyubey?" she asked, astonishment dripping from her voice.
"That thing is not Kyubey," I snorted. "It's... I don't actually know what it is."
"What the heck? It looks like Fav turned into a cat." Tsubame frowned at the little creature. "Who are you anyway?"
"Me?" The cat swished it's tail importantly. "My name is Monokyu. I'll be the headmaster during your stay at this school."
I took a step back, my mind whirling. Monokyu? Not possible. If that really was Kyubey, then how did he find us here? And why did he look so... different?
Suddenly, Homura was onstage with the cat, holding the little creature at gunpoint. "Incubator," she growled. "Whatever game you want us to play, we won't do it. Let us out."
"Incubator?" Monokyu tilted his head. "You've got the wrong cat. While I do bear resemblance to the creatures called Incubators, I am not one of them." He lifted a paw, pushing the barrel of the gun away from his head. "I'm a combination of two creatures! I've been made specially to supervise this school and be sure everything goes accordingly."
"Combination?" Ruler lifted her head arrogantly. "Then I assume you're a mix between that creature they call Kyubey and the one we know as Fav. Is that right?"
"That's right!" The little creature swished his tail, his eyes gleaming. "I am a combination of those two creatures."
"Who made you? Are you some kind of robot?" Nagisa asked, a doubtful look on her face. "Maybe I'm dreaming. This doesn't seem real..."
"No, you're not dreaming," Nemurin told her cheerfully. "I can tell, because my magic power is the ability to go into people's dreams, and I can't do that to you right now."
"I'm not a robot!" Monokyu snapped, lashing his tail angrily. "I'm very much a real creature. I was brought into existence through magic, just like all of you."
"Fair enough," Riz murmured. "I suppose you won't tell us who made you?"
"That would ruin all the fun." Monokyu sat down, wrapping his long tail around his paws. "Now, as im sure you all know, you were brought here because you're veterans, right? You're some of the most powerful magical girls, the best at what you do."
I narrowed my eyes and remained silent. It was true that I had been scouted for the school because of my prowess as a magical girl, but I didn't trust this little Kyubey rip-off. I wasn't sure why the school had scouted me in the first place-- I couldn't use magic anymore. All I could do was transform and enchant my weapon, or make red chain barriers. Nothing compared to what the other girls could do. From what I had just seen, it looked like Homura could teleport and summon weapons, and Nemurin could invade the dreams of others. Not exactly the type of people I'd want to mess with.
"I'm sure that's all well and dandy," Monokyu was saying, his tail twitching slightly. "And im sure that's why you all think you're here. However..." He leaned forward, his red eye flashing with malice. "I have other plans for you girls."
"Other plans?" Nagisa tilted her head slightly. "What other plans?"
"Well... for starters, you're all going to live in this school for the rest of your miserable lives!" Monokyu leapt off of the podium and ran behind it as he spoke. He re-emerged a few seconds later, dragging a large basket filled with rectangular devices behind him. "And as long as you're in my school, you play by my rules."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Tsubame snapped, glaring daggers at the monochrome cat. "Trapped here? Forever? You're crazy!"
A chorus of enraged yells followed Tsubame's outburst.
"You can't do that!" "Surely somebody will notice we're missing!" "You're insane! Let us go!"
A blast of purple energy suddenly shot forward, narrowly missing Monokyu. It exploded into glittering sparks that vanished as soon as they hit the floor second before it made contact with the creature.
"You," growled Ruler. She pushed her way to the front of the crowd, standing in front of Monokyu imposingly. She pointed her staff at his face, her expression remaining firm and unimpressed. "Tell us how to get out of here, this instant." Her staff suddenly began to glow with a bright red light. The light branched out from the gem in the staff, surrounding the little cat in a cloud of sparkling red light.
"Upupupu..." Monokyu began to laugh, not seeming bothered by the cloud of magic surrounding him. "Silly girls. Your magic won't work on me." With a flick of his tail, the magic aura around him vanished. Ruler was suddenly sent flying backwards, slamming into the ground a few feet away from the cat. "I can tell you have a powerful sort of magic, but you can't waste it on me!"
"Tch...!" Ruler slowly stood up, gritting her teeth as she moved. She marched coldly to the back of the room, taking her place beside a terrified-looking Tama.
"What game are you talking about?" Kirika stepped forward, her expression betraying her uneasiness. "I thought we were here to become better at what we do."
Monokyu' grin grew wider. "Like I said, change of plans. Now you're all going to be trapped here, forever. The cops won't come, so don't try that- we've already taken care of them." He began to pace across the stage, his tail flicking as he walked. "Your parents and relatives have been told you did this voluntarily, so no help there either. There is one, and only one way to get out." The cat stopped pacing, turning to face us with a sinister grin.
