"Whats up?" I asked, strolling into the next room where I planned to sleep. Sam walked in behind me then shut the door, "Is everything okay?"

"Yeah! Yeah, yeah, of course!" Sam said, uncomfortably.

"Sam, I heard Bobby-" I started.

"You did?" He shifted awkwardly, his face twitching a bit.

"Thin walls." I explained, "If you don't want me around anymore you just have to tell me."

"What? No." Sam persisted, "We just want you safe. I just wanted to talk to you to make sure everything was okay. No second thoughts?"

"Hell, no." I smiled, "Never felt better."

"Right but, I just want you to understand: there's a lot you don't know about this world, hunting, my brother and I." Sam went on.

"I know. But that's okay, that's what making friends is about." I nodded.

"I know that I just, the people that are around me- us- they don't live long to tell the tale. This life, especially with a few kills under your belt-" Sam continued on, but I started zoning out. This was not my first talk from them.

"I know the consequences. But I'm not afraid to die." I told Sam.

"What do you mean?" He asked.

"I mean, until now I didn't really have a lot of purpose in my life. Now I know what that purpose is and you guys gave it to me. And so if that means dying a little young and bloody for the benefit of others, I'm alright with that." I said, "Unless there's other means for living?"

"You don't want a family? A husband to settle down with?" He asked.

"Maybe one day. If I meet a guy that was ballsy enough to lock me down. But not right now. I don't think I have to do anything now." I said, "I already tried the white picket fence and so far all signs are telling me to stay off the lawn."

"Oh." Sam said, "Well, uh, that's good, (Y/N). I'm glad that's cleared up then."

He started to turn around but I could tell he was a little off, "Is there anything else you wanna talk about?"

"No.." Sam said, "Not tonight. I don't think anything has to happen tonight."

"Oh, okay." I said a little down, then he opened the door again, "Goodnight."

He smiled weakly then left. I would give anything to know what goes on in there. He shut the door behind him. And I put my ear up to the door to try to hear but the room was too far away. So instead I just settled in for the night.

The next day, Sam and I are at a table with a Ranger who had been investigating the murders, who is eating a sandwich. And frankly couldn't get over the sandwich.

"So, Ranger Evans –" Sam started,

"Oh, uh, you can call me Rick. Ranger Rick." Ranger Rick corrected him.

"Uh, you were the one who found Mitchell Rayburn, correct?" Sam continued.

"The human burrito." Ranger Rick laughed at his joke.

"State police have it down as a bear attack." I pressed.

"Yeah, I read what the state police says. That was no rogue brown." Ranger Rick was laughing, as if he knew something.

"Apparently, some others reported seeing something a little, you know, weirder." I added, trying to play into what he might know.
