"Mum, mum please help! Where are you?" I screamed as I ran upstairs with pure fear in my voice. My crazy drunken father followed with his branding stick. I never thought he would use it! It was mostly for threats but this time he heated it up. I pushed through the door into my mums room, but she wasn't there. I was terrified. My dad walked in with a devilish glare aimed at me. "Dad please?" I tried to stop him he walked over and pinned me down. I struggled and screamed from the pain and then felt numb as the burning sensation became more intense.

My eyes fluttered open and I noticed my mum sobbing in the other chair across the living room.

"Mum?" I squeaked. She immediately looked at me and jolted from her seat towards me. She hugged me so tightly, I thought my lungs were about to fail.

"I'm so sorry Jess, are you ok?" She sobbed into my shoulder.

"Mum it's not your fault, and yes I feel okay." I forced a weak smile. "Where is he?" My expression turned blank as I was thinking about all he had done to break me. He took me away from my friends, he caused me to harm myself and he just made me feel like I was unwanted.

"Don't worry honey, he's gone to prison. He can't hurt you anymore." She quivered and bit her lip to hold back the tears. I nodded slowly and ran a hand through my tangled caramel hair. I looked at my ankle and then I saw it. My ankle had been messily imprinted with the word 'worthless' I sighed and forced down my trouser leg to cover it up.

"Honey, you know auntie Karen and uncle Geoff?" My mum said. I nodded. "Well we've been invited round later but we will only go if you feel up to it." She combed through my hair as she spoke. I smiled.

"Mum I would love too!" I loved visiting them.

"That's good sweetie and Liam is home from that tour he went on with his band!" She grinned.

"Yay Lili's home!!!" I squealed, I was so excited me and Liam we're closer than close. I was so proud of him. He's come so far, it will be interesting to catch up with him.

I went upstairs to change. I put on a pair of black skinny jeans and a white lace effect top. I also curled my hair and did my daily subtle make up routine. "Jess are you ready?" My mum shouted.

"Coming." I sighed a I grabbed my phone. I made sure the mark on my leg wasn't visible before running down the stairs and getting into the car. We were about half way there.

"Honey, I truly am sorry about your dad and don't worry I haven't told anyone about it." My mother apologised.

"Mum! How many times do I have to tell you! It wasn't your fault!" I had told her countless times that she shouldn't be sorry. But I was glad she hadn't told anyone, I hate having people acting pitiful around me. My mother just sighed as we pulled up in the drive way. I immediately hopped out the car. I ran down the path to the doorway and my mum followed slowly. I knocked on the door. And uncle Geoff opened it.

"Hi uncle Geoff!" I hugged him and he squeezed me.

"Heya sweet heart, gosh your getting big, how old are you now?" He pulled away from the hug to look at me.

"18 uncle Geoff." I replied as Karen pulled my mum in and ushered us all into the living room. I looked for Liam but he wasn't in there. Karen must have noticed me looking for him.

"He's upstairs honey I'll go and call him." I nodded and mouthed a thank you as she rose to her feet and went into the hallway. I was giddy with excitement as I heard foot steps on the stairs.

"Where's my favourite cousin!" Liam hollered. I jumped up and ran to hug him. He lifted me up and spun me around.

"I missed you!" I mumbled into his neck when he put me down.
