PROMPT
My Funny Valentine···
They have been running for hours. They didn't know where to go anymore. A horde of infected were running behind them and they couldn't catch a break, not now. If they stop it would be over for both of them and they both knew that.
"RJ, pagod na ko. Di ko na kaya. Kanina pa tayo tumatakbo." Maine fell on her knees. She was too tired to continue.
"Come on. Dun tayo sa loob." RJ pointed at the house near them and he did his best to carry Maine even though his legs were about to fall on him, too.
When they got inside, he barricaded the doors with the remaining furniture as much as he could. He locked the doors and checked the second floor if any infected were inside. Luckily for them, there was none. He helped Maine up, carried her to the attic and made sure that they were safe inside before sitting beside her.
"Tubig?" RJ handed Maine the last of their water bottle. She refused.
"Promise mo sakin na kapag nakapasok sila tatakbo ka. Promise me that you'll stay alive." Her eyes watered. Maine was giving up.
"I can't promise you that kasi hindi kita iiwan kahit anong mangyari." He grabbed her hand and held it tight, his fingers wrapped around hers.
They sat in silence for a while before Maine spoke again. "Parang kahapon lang nagpaplano tayo kung saan mag-cecelebrate ng Valentine's day."
"Happy Valentine's day." RJ joked. He looked at her and laughed lightly. She did, too.
Her face suddenly turned blank. Her smile faded. He held his face like she was memorizing every detail for the last time.
"I love you." RJ said softly before planting his lips on hers.
The sound of a breaking door startled the two. They held each other, foreheads resting on each other and closed their eyes, preparing themselves for their inevitable demise.
