I stirred in my sleep my eyes slowly opening ,my room illuminated by the light of the rising sun's rays. I got out of my bed and slowly made my way to the bathroom across the hall as soon as I closed my bedroom door the sweet, glorious heavenly smell of pancakes attacked my nostrils. I wanted to follow the scent to my favorite item of food, but I denied myself and forced myself to wait.
Closing the bathroom door behind me I came face to face with a monster. With disheveled hair sticking in all directions possible. I completed my morning routine, dressed and made my way towards the kitchen where the delicious, delicacy of pancakes where being made. By non other than Chad.
"Good morning." He greeted with a lopsided smile on his boyish face.
"Morning." I greeted. Moving towards a chair that was accompanied by an island in the center of the small but open kitchen. Had placed a plate of rolled pancakes in front of me.
"Just how you like them, rained with syrup and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar, topped off with whipped cream and a cherry." He said and smiled. I couldn't shake the feeling that he was trying to tell me something, but I said nothing. I wonder if he knows that I know, probably not. I mentally shrugged.
"Thanks."I said as I reached for a fork to stuffed my face with delicious food. "You really didn't have to."
"No, no but I did." He said, I raised a brow." Cause I need to tell you something." He announced licking his lips and sucked them in. Oh my gosh he was going to tell me." I-I haven't been completely honest with you-" he was cut off by my phone ringing.
"Hello?"
"Eyyy, its ya boy August. Boo I need you to meet me at school like right now. It's urgent." And with that he hung up the phone. What could be so urgent that he would need to call this early and yes eleven a.m in my mind is early.
"Who was that?"Chad inquired.
"August and he said it was urgent so I have to go." I said. He nodded.
"What could be so urgent on a Saturday this early in the morning?"correction in our minds Saturday morning at eleven a.m was early. I gave him small side hug.
"We'll talk later, okay." With that I grabbed my coat and phone and took an uber to the university to meet August. I opened the door car door, paid the uber driver and got out of the car I walked up the wide cream colored concrete steps. I pulled out my phone.
'Where r u?' I texted.
My phone buzzed within the second.
'In the garden' he texted back. Sighing I walked in the university through the many hallways, and in the garden that lay in the center of the university. I spotted him sitting on one of the benches. As I approached he looked up and smiled his beautiful smile. "Hey girl how is you?" Behind all the smiles I noticed that he had been crying and that he had dark circles around his eyes.My face immediately changed to a concerned one.
"August what's wrong?" I asked sitting down next to him.
"No it's nothing." He brushed my question off. From his face I could tell that it wasn't nothing.
"Tell me I want to help, I can only help if you tell me." He inhaled deeply and sniffed.
"Well." Began."When I came to New York, and it was summer so it was vacation...and so, I went out with my sister and I met this guy,Kyle. He was cute, and smart and funny everything that I wanted in a man." He chocked out a sob."I fell in love with him." The tears streamed down his face in a seemingly endless stream of sadness. It pained me to him this hurt. In the very short time that we knew each other, I felt like I could tell him anything. I hugged him and rubbed his back as he cried. He pulled away so he could continue."Yesterday, I left because he told me to meet me at his house. So I met him there and we went to his room as usual and as soon I got in he pinned me against the wall I asked him what was he trying to do, it he didn't answer he started to kiss me at first it was light but then he got rough he turned me around my face against the wall. At the beginning of our relationship he wanted to have sex but I told that I wasn't ready and that I was waiting till I get married."
I covered my mouth in a silent gasp. I couldn't believe it. It was to unreal. Even though it didn't happen to me it still felt like it did. I felt his pain. He was violated, touched against his own will.
" I could feel his hands moving to my waist and trying to pull my shorts down,I could hear his belt buckle. I kept telling him to not do this but he wouldn't listen. I could feel the tears streaming down my face I couldn't understand why this would happen to me. I started to scream for help. I don't know why I thought that someone might hear me. He started to hit me. I didn't know what happened, I don't what new found strength I got but I managed to get away I ran as fast has I could and I got away. The man I loved assaulted me and tried to rape me."he finished inhaling a shaky breath.
"August that is not nothing, are you okay? I'm sorry I am still shocked I never thought this would happen to anyone I knew." I really didn't know what to do. I couldn't fathom how much hurt he must be in, I mean he love this man. It made me realize that what happened with me and Logan was small compared to August's ordeal. I'm not saying that it made the memories any easier to bare. I gave him one long love filled hug. I let him let it all out.
"By the way crop top, ripped short shorts and cute olive green military jacket. I am already rubbing off on you." He said with a smile. He's beautiful smile. The August that I knew was back. A little bit heartbroken but he was back. "C'mon lets go window shopping." He suggested offering his arm.
As we walked out the main doors of the university we stopped to wait for an uber to pick us up. "Mia?" I looked up at August who was only about an inch taller than my 5'6 -damn the struggle of being short is real- "thanks." He said I smiled at him.
"Anytime."
