"Honey, do you have everything?" My mother asked, as I finished placing the last of my things into boxes and cases. I nodded, closing the suitcase on my bed. I was heading off to NYU in a matter of minutes with a dance scholarship. I had been dancing since I was a little girl, and it became more of a hobby than a passion, but nonetheless I enjoyed dancing I had prepared myself for university for a few years now, working hard and managing a social life.

I broke my thought by finishing packing. My bag was finally full of my necessities. I pull my short brown hair into a messybun, and compliment my blue eyes with some mascara.

"Yeah, I've got everything." I say to my mother, zipping the case and trying my best to lift it. Before I can get it off the bed, my father comes in and picks it up for me. I smile, thanking him for the gesture. My mother begins to tear up and I know where this is going to go. We're going to have a large amount of waterworks and she's going to explain how much she will miss me and how I've grow over the years.

"You've grown so much, Baby. You are such a beautiful young woman with amazing talents and goals. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise." She says, choking on every word. I'm surprised by the amount she is crying and I take her into my arms and kiss her cheek. I love my mother, and our relationship is very strong. Same with my father too, we are a very stable family.

I break the affection and check the time, realizing if I want to get there by 4:00 we should leave now. The drive is going to be about an hour and a half, and my father volunteered to drive me a week ago, rather than me have to bus.

"Goodbye Mum, I'll call you when I am settled into the dorm, ok?" I ask my mother, pulling her into a final embrace. She nods, wiping tears and placing sloppy kisses on my cheeks. I truly am going to miss her, and my father.

"Goodbye, Baby." She says, holding my hand tight. I slowly walk away, leaving our fingers to slide away from one anothers grasp. My father takes my cases to the trunk of our car, as I put the boxes in the back seat. As I close the back door, I take one glance at my street; my home.

"Are you ready, Baby?"  My father asks, breaking me out of my trance. I shake it off with a nod, trying to stop the tears from forming in my eyes. I really was going to miss my home town New Jersey. I take one more look at the place that molded me into the person I am today, and I finally step into the SUV, placing my headphones into my ears.

"Are you nervous?" My father asks, starting the car and driving off before I can press play on my favorite band, The 1975's. I pull out an earphone and shrug.

"Honestly, i'm kind of nervous about the whole 'change' and the fact i'm actually going to be in a university. The work and stuff isn't a bother, you know?" I explain, and my dad nods, focusing on the drive to New York.

"I get what you mean." he tells me. "When I was your age going to uni, I wasn't nervous for the work and the school itself, but more nervous for the people. You have new expieriences, and you see things you shouldn't see, and people do things they shouldn't do." He explains, and I continue to listen. "Look, Baby, you are going to meet people, and they may not be good people. I raised you to be a smart, independent woman, and you will make the right choices."

I am lost for words, taking in the advice and knowledge my father has just enlightened me in. I look over to him focusing on the road and say, "yeah, I know what you mean. I hope my roomate is nice, so i'll at least have one friend, hopefully."

He asks about my roomate and tell him what I know. Her name is Carmen and shes coming from Orlando, Florida. That's all the information they gave me. The name Carmen sounds unique, and my thoughts agree that she will be unique too.

My father looks over and smiles. "I'm sure your roomate will be as amazing as you are."

I smile, knowing he means every word he says. On that note, I put in my headphones and begin to play some 1975's. I slowly close my eyes, drifting to sleep along with the melody of 'sex'.

"Honey, wake up.!" I hear, and I open my eyes and pull out my headphones. As I finally wake up, I notice my surroundings. A beige building with a numerous amount of windows surrounded me. It looks absolutely beautiful. I then suddenly get the realization of where I am. After 14 years of school, all my work has finally paid off. I am finally at New York University.

I step out of the car and see scattered young adults everywhere. Some look lost, some look like they're in a hurry to find their friends, and some look like they're finally in the place they've been working to get their whole life.

"Let the year begin."
