I can't breathe. I think I'm having a panic attack.
"Dawn just breathe," Alyssa says. I do as I'm told into a brown paper bag.

Now Alyssa doesn't know anything. I told her I had failed an important test...
Though, I would rather fail multiple than deal with the actual reason I'm panicking.

We are outside now, sitting on a bench, a beautiful sunny day, and I can't even enjoy it. I don't even know how I got here, all I remember are my weighted footsteps carrying my numb body away from the halls. Teenagers pass by me with their groups of friends, giving me crazy looks and snickering to each other.

It's ironic, isn't it? I have never kept a secret from Alyssa in my whole life. And now the one secret I have will tear our friendship apart. I breathe harder into the bag.

"Are you ok now?" She says, I nod.
I can feel my face slowly turning pale as my eyes meet hers. She wouldn't be so nice to me if she only knew what just happened less than 10 minutes ago.
I thought that when it came down to it, Vince would eventually reject me as his mate. I hoped for it.

But hearing the opposite come out of his mouth was the last thing I expected. I know I need to tell Alyssa, and I thought that if I sorted this out on my own it would make things better. But I've only made it worse and I'm continuing to dig myself into a deeper hole...
"What class was it? Maybe I can talk to the teacher and use my father's the Alpha card." She breaks me out of my trance, and I almost go into another panic attack.

My eyes widen and I immediately yell "NO!"  which causes all eyes in the lot to stare. I cower and brush my hair nervously with my fingers. "I probably deserved it," I mutter, not making eye contact with Alyssa and instead focusing all my attention on the school exit.
We are waiting for Max and it's starting to occur to me how out in the open we are...

"Dawn!" Alyssa says, grabbing me by the shoulders to face her. Her face shrunched up as always when she's mad. Alyssa opens her mouth to say something to me but is cut short.

"Omg Alyssa!" A girl named Thalia squeals, her raven hair bluish black in the son and her little entourage trailing behind her. Alyssa directs her attention away from me and onto Thalia, plastering on a fake smile.
I mentally wipe away the invisible sweat on my forehead. Thalia casts me a glance and a sickly smile. I roll my eyes.

Thalia, for lack of better words, is a bitch. There's no way around it. Her personality is hard to swallow.
"So, Alyssa. I'm having a little party and was wondering if you could come." Alyssa just stares at her with a blank unreadable expression. Thalia's followers nervously start to giggle at the tension between the two, highly unaccustomed to the art of mean girl etiquette. I sigh.

"I'll think about it." Alyssa finally says as she grabs the envelope from Thalia's freshly manicured hand. A barely noticeable twitch of anger flashes across her face from Alyssa's indefinite answer, before being replaced again by a large smile.

"And I was also wondering if you could also bring Vince!" My heart starts to beat louder at the sound of his name. My mouth even watering.

Alyssa's head snaps up so hard from examining the invitation, I thought it might actually snap off. This can't be good. Alyssa starts to laugh, and when I say laugh, I mean really laugh.

Now she's the one getting crazy looks. I stare at her in bewilderment, shes obviously not taking this breakup well...
Finally, she calms down after a couple of seconds and dramatically wipes away a fake tear.
"If you want him so badly, have him. I know you've always had a thing for him, and guess what, we're broken up, so you can have my sloppy seconds." She says with a nasty snarl, and I try to disappear into the background.
