The school day went by in a blur. I went to class, did the work, wrote down the homework and left. With every class it was the same cycle.
At lunch, I sat with Nichole, and her boyfriend Zach. Zach was tall, muscular, with light brown hair and green eyes. Zach had been dating Nichole for almost a year. Everyone keeps saying that they're cute together and they should win prom king and queen.
Nichole and I were exact opposites. She had dark brown hair, and almost black eyes. I had platinum blonde hair, and light blue eyes. She had an athletic body, and I on the other hand did not. I mean, I'm skinny and I'm in good shape, but I wouldn't say I have an athletic body. Nichole was the head cheerleader, she participated in almost everything our school offered. I preferred to stay at home and read. I don't know how we get along so well to be honest.
As I sat at lunch I kept looking over to the jocks table. Sitting right next to Jake Andrews, was Lucas Smith, the football captain. Almost every girl in my grade has a crush on him. He was the most popular guy in the school. Everyone knows who he is,but sadly he doesn't know who everyone else is, including me. So, everyday I sat there and stared at him like a stalker. He'd never even glanced at me before, but hopefully that would change tomorrow.
When I got home from school, I started to do the same routine I always do. Go into my room and read. However, that's when I walked into my room, and saw the puppy. During the long day I had forgotten all about the puppy. I don't know how that was possible considering that puppy could beat Dave Franco in a cuteness contest. I picked up the puppies water bowl and walked to the bathroom to refill it. When I got back, I took the hyper, bouncy puppy out of the box and set him on my bed. I played with her for awhile on my bed until she started losing her energy. I set her on my floor and she stuck only her head under my bed. I was so confused, but she was too cute to move.
At about 4 I started feeling kind of sleepy. I laid my head down on my pillow, and was almost asleep when I remembered the puppy on the floor. She was still sound asleep. I slowly picked her up and laid her in front of me. She stretched out and then I wrapped my arm loosely around her small body. I soon drifted off to sleep.
When I awoke my phone said it was 5:30. I picked up the still sleepy puppy, and carried her out into the living room. A few minutes later my mom walks in from the kitchen.
"You know you can't keep her." She tells me.
"Oh, but why not?" I say grumpily.
"Because, I don't want to have to clean up after her."
"I will. I promise." I answer truthfully.
"Yeah, like I'm going to believe that coming from a 17 year old girl."
"Yes, because I will take care of her." I reply.
"Okay, but if I have to start taking care of her, we're getting rid of her." She compromises.
"Deal." I say.
"So anyway, how was school? Anything new happen?" My mom questioned me. As we sit down with our spaghetti tacos.
"No. Did anything new happen at work?"
"I got a new client today." She answered.
"What's their name?"
"Honey, you know I can't tell you."
"Please..." I say as I giver her puppy dog eyes again.
"Okay, but just the name. His name is Blake, if you must know." She answers knowing I'm going to ask another question.
"How hold is he?" I interrogate once again.
"I'm not telling you anything else."
"Will you at least tell me this?" I beg.
"No."
"Please..."
"No."
"Pleeeeaaaaaaasssssssssseeeeee!!!"
"Not happening." She answers sternly.
"Please..." I look at her again with my puppy dog eyes.
She stares into my eyes for a few seconds before collapsing. "FINE! He is 17 years old. But that's it. Do you understand me?" She demands.
"Yes, thank you mommy." I answer sweetly, as I reach down to pick up my other taco. He is my age, I wonder if he's cute. Those thoughts quickly come to an end, when two cute little paws appear on my leg. I look down at my puppy, curious as what to name her.
Kira? No...
Elizabeth? No....
Hazel? Maybe...
Emily? No....
Louise? No, it doesn't fit her.
Hailey? Maybe...
Margaret? Maybe.
Mae? Maybe...
I have it! Margaret Mae! And I can call her Maggie for short! It fits her just right....I finish my taco, and then rinse off my plate.
"Maggie!" I call excitedly after rinsing off my plate. She turns her head around and comes running at me. She jumps at me and I catch her before she claws me in the face. "I'm taking it that you like that name." I say aloud.
"So that's her name?"
"Yep. Maggie Mae. Although, Maggie is short for Margaret." I reply excitedly.
"Well, I think that suits her very well." She says as she gives me an impressed look.
I leave the kitchen and head for my bedroom, when I hear something following me. I turn around and nothing is there. I take a few for steps, and I turn around again. Nothing. I do it once more, before I finally spot the little puppy running away from me.
"Get back here you!" I yell down the hall. She doesn't listen she just keeps running. I leave my door open in case she wants to come in here. I lay in my bed and read my book for awhile until I feel myself getting drowsy again.
I lay down and close my eyes, and then I feel something fuzzy hit my legs. I look down and see Maggie laying in front of my legs. I soon drift off once again.
