It was two weeks after Addison woke up when Doctor Reed told her that she could go home. Addison was overjoyed with the news. She would finally be able to get out of the hospital room that she had been stuck in for over four months. Addison had been getting better and better every day. In fact, she was back to her normal self now.
Caiden and Lauren came to visit her every day for at least an hour. Freya and Maya came every other day bringing with them books for Addison to read since she had a lot of spare time on her hands. Clary tried to be with her for the rest of the time but Addison knew that she was struggling to juggle managing the company and being with her. That's why she told her that she would be fine by herself and that Clary should focus on the business. Clary was reluctant to leave Addison's side at first, but she eventually gave in.
It was the times when she was by herself that Addison realised that going home was a pretty big deal.
It wasn't like it was before. This time she could walk into her house without having to hide her face from the public. She could stay in London for however long she wanted to whilst knowing that people knew who she was. The last time she had gone home, she had ended up in the hospital a few days later. Did she really want to go back there? Was it really 'home' when her parents weren't there?
Clary entered the room with Doctor Reed, pulling Addison away from her thoughts. They both had gigantic smiles on their faces which only meant one thing, it was time.
The few belongings Addison had with her were already packed. All she had to do was get dressed while Clary filled in some paperwork. Half an hour later, Doctor Reed met with Clary and Addison in the room.
"Now you need to careful okay?" Doctor Reed explained to Addison. "You shouldn't take any stress and try to keep the manual work to a minimum. If you start to feel weak or off just tell Clary and she'll give me a ring. We need to be careful now. You've gone through a lot of trauma. You'll need to come in for check ups every week. Maybe it would be wise to visit a counsellor too?"
"No!" Addison suddenly said. She didn't like that idea. Seeing a counsellor? That would only remind her of a few years ago when everything went bad. No way was she going back in that mindset again. She would rather get through this with Clary and her friends. "What I mean to say is that I think for right now I'm fine. Should there be any changes then I'll let you know straight away."
Doctor Reed looked at Clary. She didn't respond. It was as if they were communicating telepathically. Addison hated when adults did that. A few seconds later Doctor Reed turned back to Addison and nodded. "Very well then. Your documentation is all complete and I'm happy with the results of your final check up. You're free to go Miss Myer. Have a nice day."
Addison smiled at the man. "Thanks, Doctor. Thanks for saving my life... Twice."
"It's what I do." he replied simply.
After Clary and Doctor Reed had a quick private conversation, Addison and Clary walked out of the hospital. As they approached the exit, Addison saw a crowd of people with cameras and notepads. At first, she was intrigued as to what was going on. Why was the media at the hospital? Who had they come to see? Then it struck her. It happened so fast. A man yelled 'here they come!" and the flashes and shouting began. It clicked then. They had come to see her.
Clary held onto Addison's hand as she guided her towards the crowd of people. "You don't have to say anything to them if you don't want to. There's a car waiting for us in the car park. Just keep your head down and ignore them if you don't want to speak to them."
Addison nodded and braced herself as the doors of the exit opened and she was surrounded by men and woman who were much older than she was. The flashes were so bright that Addison struggled to see. She kept her head down and tried not to react to the questions being shouted at her.
