The Game

Chapter 1

Arianna’s POV

It was really a peaceful day for me today. Laying on the grass next to my favorite book, listening to the faraway schoolyard noise, bathing in the sun’s warmth. I sighed, this is probably one of the few days where I actually felt relaxed.

But I spoke too soon. Or thought too soon?

Suddenly, a shadow cross over my closed eyes, I let out a groan to let the intruder know that I’m not happy with the fact that they are ruining my tan. However, I feel a finger poking my hips, so I immediately sit up with hands covering my sides to prevent further ticklish attacks.

I lift up my head and see a blond guy smiling at me, for what, I have no idea. “Hey Arianna.” He greet with a hand extend toward me.

I stare at his hand for a while, not sure what he wants me to do, then stare back at his now somewhat disappointing face. I sigh, and put a hand in his big palm. Strangely but not unexpectedly, he broadly smiles and pull me up from the grass field.

“Thanks.” I said with a smile.

“You’re welcome.” he replies still with that smile on his face.

Ok, now this is getting awkward. Obviously, he is waiting for me to say something because that’s how conversations work, but I don’t know what to say. Moreover, I don’t exactly want to talk to him. I glance back down to the soft, lush, green patch that’s yearning for me to lay back on it, and get sun-kissed. When I’m about to do just that, the guy clears his throat.

“So…” Ok, so he stopped there. That’s good, at least now I know what my next line should be.

“So…” Was my brilliant response.

He let out a soft chuckle. Why does every guy thinks everything I say is funny? “Um, Arianna, I’ve wanted to ask you this for a while-”

I cut him off, “wait, what’s you name?” I feel somewhat bad that he knows my name and I don’t know his.

His smile instantly turns upside down. Ok, now I feel even worse. “Uh, it’s Cole…”

“Cole.” I test his name in my mouth, “I like it!” I decide.

He then literally turns that frown upside down. I almost laughed at his bi-polar personality, but that would’ve been rude.

“So, anyway,” he continues, seeming to have even more confidence than before, “if, um, want to go out sometimes?”

I want to say that I’m shocked, but no, not really I’m not. This happens almost on a daily basis. A guy of any looks come ask me out, depending on my mood I would sometimes say yes, hook up with them and then avoid them at all costs. Yup, life is good.

However, all guys that went out with me, doesn’t date other girls for a long time, I think they were feeling self-conscious or something. I laughed the first time I heard it, I guess I’m easily amused.

So, what to do about Cole? I don’t know, I guess he is kind of cute, with shaggy blond hair and sparkling blue eyes, totally the typical American boy next door.

I think I’m just very very bored, because I answered, “yes!” enthusiastically. Bad Ari, getting his hopes up.

Before his grin can get any bigger, I was already walking away. Over my shoulder I yell, “Call me later!”

It was when I almost reached my locker that I realize that I hadn’t given him my number. I shrug, oh well, if he had somehow found out about my name, he can do the same with my number. It’s not that hard, if he just asks five guys in our grade, one of them ought to know the answer.
