*Kaitlin's POV.*
I was sat on my suitcase outside my house. Dan walked out of his house and walked across the street. He sat in front of me with his back towards me. I automatically started playing with his hair.
"So how long are you going for?" Dan asked
"I honestly don't know." I replied. "It could be 3 months or 3 years." I sighed and stopped playing with his hair.
Dan stood up and pulled me off my suitcase. He sat back down pulling me down with him. He pulled me onto his lap.
"I'm going to miss you, Kaitlin." He said twisting some of my hair around his finger.
"Not as much as I'll miss you." I said looking down. "I have something for you, Dan."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah."
I stood up and rooted through my messenger bag. I pulled out my present for Dan. It was a photo album of all our best memories. But of course I wrapped it.
"Don't unwrap it until I have gone." I said seeing my dad's car turn the corner.
Dan took the present gratefully. He saw my dad pull up and Dan stood up. He helped me put my bags in the car in silence. The silence wasn't awkward. I put my last bag in the car and shut the boot.
"So... This is goodbye." Dan said sadly
"Yeah... It is. I'll visit as often as I can. I'll never forget you." I said walking towards the car door.
Dan grabbed me before I could reach the door. Dan hesitated for a second before kissing me. He pulled away and let me get into the car. I rolled down my window to talk to Dan one last time.
"Your my best friend Dan. Forever and always." I said before my Dad drove off.
I slumped in my seat and started crying silently.
"It's okay kid." My dad said
"I'll never find another friend like Dan." I said pulling a tissue from my pocket
"You will. There's a kid across the road you could make friends with. His names Phil. When he found out someone else around his age was moving in across the street he was all hyper."
"He sounds too energetic."
"He's not like that really kid. He's shy but easily exited."
"Great." I murmured. "All I need is an easily exited child to be my friend."
"Give him chance Kat. You might like him."
I just sighed and pulled the tissue I was holding into little bits. It's been ages since someone called my Kat. Dan and mum always called my Kait.
"Look to the bright side kid. Your 16 tomorrow." Dad said trying to make me feel better
"So is Dan." I said quietly.
"Kat, you have to stop thinking about him. That's the only way you'll be able to move on."
"Is that what you did when mum left you?"
"I tried. But I couldn't. What ever I thought of brought me straight ..."
"Back to my mum. But fore it's Dan. I have lived nearly all my life with him."
"You have to try. I know it's hard but... You can do it ."
"If you believe..."
"You succeed."
That was always my dad's motto. I have no freakin idea why. My dad pulled up. Are we already in Lancashire? I looked at the window. And sure enough we were outside dads house. Dad got out and undid the boot. I got out of the car and went to help my dad. Luckily he has a drive so I didn't have to haul it up a pavement.
"Robert!" Someone shouted from across the road
"Phil! How are you?" Dad replied
"Robert huh?" I said quietly. I walked to the door. "Dad! Keys!"
Dad threw me the keys and I caught them. I guess being forced on the netball team isn't bad after all. I unlocked the door and took my bag in the hall. I walked back out to the car. Dad was talking to a boy who had dark hair and bright blue eyes . When he saw me he gave me a shy smile. I returned the smile and continued with my bags.
"I could with some help you know!" I yelled to my dad
A few minuets later he walked on the house.
"You've done it." Dad said sitting in his chair on the living room.
"What?" I asked astonished
"You've done it. Why were you nervous and shy?"
"What you on about?" I said nervously
"You do things without recognising your doing it."
"You have no proof."
"Oh yeah? Your drawing in your sketch book. It looks like Dan."
I looked down and I was indeed drawing in my sketch book and it did look like Dan.
"You really need to get that under control." Dad said
"Shut up and leave me alone." I ditched the sketch book and walked outside.
I realised I can't go across the road to Dan. That made me miss him more. I sat on the door step and put my head in my hands. I was sat like that for about 5 minuets before I got distracted by someone sitting next to me. I lifted my head from my hands to see who it was. It was the boy dad was talking to.
"Hi. I'm Phil. I live just across the road. I couldn't help but notice that you was going to cross the road but walked back and sat on the door step ." He said
"Yeah. I was going to cross the road." I replied
"Why? If you don't mind me asking."
"Before I moved I had this friend. He was my best friend. I couldn't bear to leave him. Anyway. I totally forgot I moved for a second and was going to go to his house. Then I remembered."
"I'm sorry. You didn't have to tell me." He said wiping away a tear.
I didn't realise I was crying until he did that. I wiped my eyes with the back of my sleeve.
"Let's get you in, yeah?" Phil said
I nodded and he helped me stand up. He opened the door and guided me to my room. He lead me in and sat on my bed with me.
"Why are you being nice to me? You've barely known me half an hour." I asked Phil
He shrugged and stood up. He smiled at me sadly and left the house.
