The birds outside awoke me from my dreamless sleep. I rolled over on to my side and lifted up the window a little, peering out over the fields filled with animals that were hidden behind my house. I smiled to myself, I could get used to this.
"Carly, Carly are you up sweety?" My mother called from outside my room. She knocked lightly on my door a couple of times before gently turning the door handle and stepping into my room.
I rolled on to my back and propped myself up with my elbows so I could see her.
"Morning mum!" I yawned, using one of my hands to rub my eyes before falling back onto my bed and stretching my arms out.
"Morning?" My mum chuckled lightly, as she opened the wardrobe doors and started to hang up some clothes. "It's nearly 2 pm honey, you should be getting out of bed soon!"
I quickly grabbed my phone from the small wooden bedside table and gently pressed the home button. The iPhone screen came to life and the big, white, numbers read 1:47pm.
I giggled and pulled the covers off my tanned legs. "Oops, I guess that flight really tired me out!" I crawled out of bed and wondered over to where my mum was stood. I gave her a big hug and kissed her on the cheek, before grabbing a pair of black jeans and a grey hoodie and walking over to my bathroom.
I got changed out of my pj's and pulled on my clothes. I then ran a brush through my long, wavy hair and continued to get ready for the day.
-
"That was so good, thanks dad!" I smiled, wondering over to the bin and scrapping the small left over scrambled eggs into the trash. I then walked over to the sink and placed my plate down. I turned the tap on and let the warm water run for a while, cleaning the plate.
"Carly, you have to ride the horses today and take Dallas and Bailey on a walk. Then you can do some school work!" My dad shouted from his office.
I smiled at the thought of finally living on a big, beautiful farm with all my animals just a step away.
It was hard though, you know leaving all my friends and family behind in England and moving all the way out to NC. You see my dad got a job promotion all the way out here and he didn't want to leave us behind so we decided to come with him. It's beautiful, but it's not home.
As I passed dads office, I gave him a signal that I was going to ride the horses. He looked up from his work for a brief moment, gave me a small nod and a smile before typing away at his laptop, again.
My mum was in the laundry room. I told her I was going to ride so she didn't worry where I was.
"Okay sweety, remember to walk Dallas and Bailey after!" She said, "oh and the neighbours are coming over for dinner tonight."I gave her a soft smile and a nod as I zipped my riding boots up and clipped the strap of my Charles Owen hat under my chin.
-
I fed the little piggies and let the dogs out of their kennels before I walked to the paddocks. I decided to ride Frankie first and I could ride the others after.
As I slid the light pink head collar over Frankie's nose, a giant bird flew out from one of the trees behind me and spooked Frankie.
The pink and blacked stripped lead rope slid out from between my fingers and I winced in pain as it burned me.
Frankie spun around and started to canter off towards the open gate.
"Shit!" I cursed myself, "I knew I should have shut the gate behind me!"I ran after Frankie, as she made her way into the woods and disappeared down a trail.

I'm going to leave the first chapter at that! I hope you enjoyed it!!
