A couple of days later, and Megan and Brody are back in school, so I'm back to spending most of my day with no one but Frank to keep me company at work. If Frank doesn't have any work for me, sometimes I'll sit with Vicky inside the house, but that's just as bad. Frank may not be a very nice person, but at least he doesn't have the conversational skills of a rock like Vicky does. Vicky is nice to me, sure, but you can only listen to recaps of soap operas so many times.
Since Kyra is tutored in Fairchild Haven, sometimes I spend time with her during the day while we wait for Brody and Megan to get back from school so we can hang out.
One Friday, on my lunch break, I get a text telling me to come see her as soon as I possibly can. It's urgent, apparently.
When I get there, she sits alone in the lounge, arms folded, looking red hot furious about something.
As soon as she sees me she stands up. "Thank God you're here, come on, we need to talk alone," She grabs my arm and practically runs towards her room.
“What's wrong?” I ask her as soon as she slams the door behind us.
“Anthony wasn't just cheating on Megan on several occasions, he was hitting her.”
It takes me a few seconds to process what she's just said. "How do you know this?" I ask.
She sighs and stares down at her feet, the slowly picks her laptop up from beside her bed. "If I tell you, you have to promise not to be too pissed at me."
What could she have possibly done to make me pissed off at her? I guess I'm about to find out.
“Megan came over last night and used my laptop. She left her Facebook logged on. I...”
I figure it out pretty quickly. She read her messages.
“I just decided to check my Facebook before I went for lunch. I forgot to turn my laptop off last night. I didn't realize it was her Facebook account. I forgot she was still logged on. I thought it was my account. I saw that I... she, had a new message so I just clicked it. It was from Anthony. And I couldn't help myself. I read their conversation.”
I nod my head, not really sure what to say at this point. She still hasn't told me what was in the message to suggest that Anthony was hitting her.
Instead of saying anything else, she shows me her laptop screen to a screen shot of Megan and Anthony's conversation.

Meg, I'm sorry, that's all I can really say, I'm sorry about cheating on you three times, I'm sorry about hitting you when we were together, but you made me feel like shit when you were constantly talking to my friends and making me feel like I wasn't good enough. I thought you were cheating on me. You were always hanging out with other guys. It made me jealous.
I practically feel steam coming out of my ears like when cartoon characters get angry. Is this guy justifying hitting his girlfriend because she had male friends that weren't him? I feel sick. I want to go and find him right now and show him exactly what I think about him.
“I want to kill him,” Kyra exclaims, as if she's just read my mind. “I honestly want to find the punk and kick him so fucking hard.”
I don't tell her that I'm feeling just as mad. Megan and Kyra have became like little sisters to me, and I feel like it's my place to be the voice of reason, so I pull Kyra in to a hug and tell her to calm down. “He'll get what's coming to him somehow, I promise.”
“But how are we going to confront Megan or tell Brody without me having to explain that I read her messages?”
I have no idea. “Don't worry about that right now, I'll figure something out.”
