Chapter 4: The Unwanted Present

Percy's p.o.v.

"I can't believe it."

"I can't believe it." I muttered over and over to myself. I covered my eyes with my hands, hoping I was going crazy, and it was just an illusion.

Nope. It was still there. Sitting as plain as day on the sheet of celestial bronze that Leo just happened to dig up. The scary thing was, Percy could read it perfectly. Pinpoint everything on it, just because he glanced at it once.

Leo slowly folded it up, so that it was small enough to fit into his pocket. then he gave it to me.

"What am I supposed to do with this?! it's from your dad!"

"Hephaestus may have given it to me, but its obviously for a son of Poseidon to read!" Leo stormed off, leaving me standing there holding a folded up, magical slab of celestial bronze.

I sighed to myself, remembering when I hadn't been able to find Annabeth. I hadn't listened to reason, and had done everything in my power to get her back. I had even held up the sky for her. I know exactly what Leo's going through. I thought to myself. Sighing, I tucked the bronze into my pocket, next to Riptide. Somehow, I could tell that the celestial bronze would reappear if I lost it, but not in my pocket. No, it would return to the only person who truly needed it. Leo.

I trudged back to Xenia's home, tired and alone. Man, I thought, I wish Annabeth were here.
