The soft repetitive sound of Harry and Felix's footsteps echoed through the calm starry night. They had been shopping for the remainder of the day and both were extremely exhausted. Shopping had gone well, Harry had his course books and even had a whole new wardrobe. Most of the clothing consisted of shades of black and blue but there was some red. Harry had decided to avoid making a fool out of himself. And since there wasn't a uniform he had decided to go with the most common colors and colors that would not stick out. This was his year without the drama that follows being the boy-who-lived and Harry was more than ready for the change.
"Sir, can you tell me more about the classes and the teachers?"
Felix slowed his brisk pace and turned to look at the human wizard. "I'll tell you as much as I can once we find a room to settle in. I have no doubt that you are curious about the other types of students that you will be learning with and Diagon Alley is hardly the place for that conversation to take place."
Harry nodded his head in understanding and followed Felix. The pair passed building after building. The glowing lanterns that hung in the Alley were their only source of light to guide them.
Even though Felix seemed to want hold on off on any further conversation Harry couldn't help but ask the burning question that had been on his mind ever since Felix had considered them done for the day. "Professor,"
"Just call me Felix. I'm not quite your professor just yet."
"Um, Felix, I was wondering if we were done with shopping. I can't think of anything else that I would need."
Felix turned and looked at the young lord. "I'm sorry to say that we still have a few more things to pick up." The vampire smirked at the Harry. "And if I'm not mistaken, you wanted a piercing. Unless of course you changed your mind."
Harry glared at the vampire's tone. "I haven't changed my mind. I just thought that we might not have enough time to get anything done. Besides making I want a tattoo to go with my piercing." Harry's eyes glared at Felix in challenge. "What other supplies will I be needing? I thought we got everything."
Felix couldn't stop the smirk that came to his face at the audacity of the young lord. "Well, we still need to pick up your new personalized wand and armor. And not to mention any weapons that you will need."
"A new wand? Why on Earth would I need a new wand? The one that I have now works perfectly fine."
"Am I correct in saying that you purchased your wand at Olivander's?"
"Well yes, where else would I have gotten it?"
The vampire rolled his eyes at the question the stupid question. "There are tons of other places to buy wands, Lord Potter." He then signed and pulled out his own wand. "The wand that I have now is personalized. Only I could ever use it. As I am sure you know, it is very important to have a wand that only you can use."
Harry nodded his head in agreement. "But what makes your wand different from mine?"
"You'll just have to wait and see. This is an experience that you just need to have. Now, let us go in and I can answer the rest of the questions that you have asked me."
To Harry's surprise in front of them was a quaint little inn. He hadn't even realized that they had stopped walking, he had been too caught up in the conversation that they had been having. The inn was simple and almost blended in with the surroundings. The only evidence of its origins was the small sign that was half-hazardly put in the front. Harry followed slowly behind Felix as they made their way into the inn.
Felix turned and looked at Harry, "Stay here, I'm going to go get us a room." Harry was confused at first why his future teacher did not want him to go up to the small counter with him but as he looked up he understood. Standing behind the small counter was a man that was so big he made the counter seem as if it was a child's play stove. Not only that but the big man dwarfed everything around him. The man had bright shining purple eyes and two small white horns poked out at the top of his head.
'There is no way that he is a human.' As soon as that thought came to Harry the big man opened his mouth and revealed large sharp looking fangs. Harry's eyes got even bigger as he continued to stare.
Almost as if he could feel the eyes on him the man's gaze left Felix and turned to look at the small wizard. Harry's face flushed in embarrassment from being caught. He looked back up and the man was still looking at him but this time he raised an eyebrow in confusion.
Harry felt ashamed of himself. 'Who am I to judge how someone looks?' He then gave the man a small smile in apology. The large man's eyes widened in surprise but he quickly schooled his features and turned back to the vampire in front of him handing him a silver key.
---------------------------------------------------------
The room that the vampire had found for them was normal sized and surprisingly very well furnished. There were two twin-sized beds with dark blue quilts tucked neatly in place and the headboards where made of a worn cherry oak. Two small dressers that were pushed against the wall to make more room for walking matched the headboards. The two men placed the shrunken bags on the floor and made their way to a small table holding two chairs that was next to a door that Harry assumed was a bathroom.
Once they were both seated the vampire began to speak. "I will start off by reminding you that you are one of the very few humans that have ever been accepted into our school. The main reason for this is that our school isn't exactly part of this realm. See this is where it gets tricky, the school is kind of like a branch off this realm. There is the earth realm, the demon realm, the fae realm, the dark and light elf realms and so many others. The school is in a realm were all the other realms are centered. It's like the meeting place between all of them."
"Due to the school being the meeting place for all of the realms our school has a very diverse catalog of students that attend. There are no age limits in our school, though the student must be healthy enough to be able to keep up in classes. Our school strives to be accepting of all its students and in saying that we also expect for our students to be just as open minded. As you have probably noticed human wizards are not very open to change or really anything that is different from the 'norm' that is the one of the main reasons for there not being very many human students at Veritas Lux Mea."
Harry then interrupted, "But then, why was I accepted oppose to any other wizard?"
"I can honestly say that I have never met a human quite like you, Harry. Not only are you favored by the goblins but you also treat them with respect. As disappointing as this is, most wizards do not do this. They see the goblins as servants and treat them as such. When we came into the inn I noticed the interaction that you had with the inn keeper." Harry flushed in embarrassment at being reminded of his staring. "The inn keeper is what we call a hybrid. He's a mixture of two or more other creatures. Hybrids are looked down by most all creatures. They are an abomination."
As Harry sat there he grew angrier and angrier at the vampire's words. "What!" Felix imminently stopped talking and looked at Harry in shock. "Who are you to judge? That man seemed perfectly nice to me. You have absolutely no right to say any of those things about him!" Harry stood up from his seat and started to make his way to the bathroom to get away from the prejudice man who had so blatantly mocked the inn keeper.
Felix sat for a second in shock and after he gathered his wits he quickly reached out and grabbed the young fuming wizard. Harry turned his angry jade gaze to look at Felix. "Please Harry, let me finish. I am friends with him. His name is Liam. I am sorry for upsetting you. Maybe we should move on and talk about the students that you will be learning with. Does this sound acceptable?"
Harry stared at him for a moment before nodding and sitting down. This was going to be an interesting conversation.
