We had a total of sixteen entries, and after a bit of discussion, we finally came to a decision. So, starting with a honorable mention, we'll move up from 3rd to 1st place. We had fun judging, and hope to see you everyone in future contests!
Honorable Mention:
This was a strong contender, and it almost made its way into the top 3. The way you incorporated HGMedia into the syringe was definitely creative. This was overall clever and well done. However, it seems that only text was added to the cover along with a bit of contrast. I would have liked to see some changes. Be it in color tone or saturation. Still, this deserved an honorable mention.
Good job!
3rd Place:
I like the idea behind this one. The squares (or frame, maybe?) outside of "Colours" was a nice way to create a focal point. The name itself matches with the background. It's well put together and had a clear thought pattern to it. While I do like this a good bit, I find the text in the image to be either washed out or hard to read at certain points. Colours could have possibly been turned into a red, thus giving contrast to the blue.
With that said, I'm quite sure you haven't learned of color theory or anything of the sort. So, I'm just kind of being nit-picky in that regard. Good job.

2nd Place:
As I mentioned before, I would have liked to have seen some alterations to the image. However, you showed some creativity by creating a text-based cover. The usage of a sans serif font on this was a good choice, as it gives off sophistication and clarity. Another thing I really like is how "Myself" diminishes in size, along with the lowered opacity to create variance. I personally think that moving "and" over to the right would have brought more cohesiveness to the overall look of the text. It was a risky choice, and I think you pulled it off.
Good job.

1st Place:
This one in particular caught me off guard. You took advantage of a warm, analogous color scheme and gave it contrast with an elegant, white cursive font. The geometric (it almost looks Tesseract-ish) ring was fantastic touch, but I feel that it may have better served the imaged by making it bigger so that it would cut the woman's head in half. The ornamental divider (the actual name of such art is escaping me as of right now.) beneath the text was also a nice add-on, along with the four bars going around the image, thus creating a strong, eye-catching focal point. You created cohesiveness in this image, to the point where it almost looks like an album cover.
Good job.

Our next contest will be coming in early February, so it shouldn't be too hard to guess what theme of it will be. Another thing is that our next contest will only feature one winner and one prize, as will all future contests.
