"The whole world is pressing in on me, like a weight on my chest, slowly pushing me down and down. And there's nothing between me and this weight but my flimsy skin. It's not enough"
- Natalie Standiford, How To Say Goodbye in Robot.■■■■■■■■
AGNES WAS NEVER ONE to be afraid but when that man started follow her, she was scared of what could happen. So as soon as she saw the bus, she didn't miss the chance to jump in even not knowing where the bus was going.
She didn't mean to runaway today, the fact that she only had a couple of bucks in her pocket proved that. She was calmly in her couch watching some tv show when the screams began, it had been some days in this strange calm in her house so the screams would start sooner or later, but when she heard her name in the middle and some crashes, she decided that she had enough. She took some money that was in the kitchen and left the house slamming the door but the thing is that she knew she would come back in the morning and her parents wouldn't even noticed that she had gone.
She was playing with her hands to cover how nervous she was because she had just her life, dramatic like that, in the hands of this boy she just met, but she had told him the truth: she believed he was good person.
"We're going down in the next stop" he said and she nodded.
"Thank you" she said and it was his time to nod his head.
She passed her hand through her hair and looked discreetly to back of the bus only to found that the man had jump a few seats and was now only a seat away from them. She tensed which make Dominic look at her then at the man who had a creepy smile in his face. Agnes was scared, she would admit that, she was even feeling her hands shake. She then started to think in good things to make her hands stop shaking when she felt a hand on hers. Dominic was holding her hand and this had surprisingly calmed her down.
"Let's got up" he said "The stop is close"
She nodded and then both got up with Dominic's hand never leaving hers. The man stayed sit with a frown in his face, not understanding why their where together since she was alone in the first place and when the bus stopped and they both left, the man stayed in the bus looking furiously at them.
"Thank you!" Agnes said jumping in Dominic hugging him "Oh my God! Thank you so much!"
She never hugged strangers but at that time she felt that was the right thing to do and after a few seconds she felt his arms around her waist holding her close and when they pulled apart, she gave him a smile and a little two finger salute before turn around and began to walk again. Soon enough, she felt Dominic walking beside her.
"I'm going to walk you home" he said putting his hands in the pocket of his jacket.
"That's very sweet of you" she smiled "But there's not necessary"
"Why not?"
"Because I'm not going home" she said "In fact, I don't think I have a home just a place where I happen to live"
